Day started off with a beautiful giant swell that we didn't see predicted. Made me feel pretty uneasy and i knew the only way to get over it was to puke...so i forced a bite of my sandwich and immediately vomited it over the side and i was good for the rest of the day haha.
Moving on, revived from the nausea, we hit some tog spots. We've never really fished for them this early in the season so we weren't sure what to expect. Every spot we tried was littered with decent sized, closed season, sea bass and\or decent sized porgy and puffers for the most part. We picked a tog here and there but really just not good blackfishing for us. we tried 30-50' waters in different areas. Luckily, I nailed one real nice fish on a jig in a 30' section, but that was pretty much it for us on the tog grounds.
We looked for some albies but every pod of fish we found ended up being bluefish from super mini size to cocktail. They also seemed to be super picky. I get hit on fast or slow straight retrieves, but the only hook ups came jigging a little homemade 'crippled herring' style spoon.
