On Saturday, I went to check out a few of my local trout spots to see if I could get a few trout to cooperate. Not surprisingly, water levels were way below optimum levels. I still managed a little action, losing a brown and catching this pretty little native brook trout.

With sub par trout conditions, I switched gears to target my favorite NJ river gator: northern pike. I had expected the bite to be good and the fish didn't disappoint. I ended up catching and releasing seven pike, with a couple of beasts in the mix. The smallest fish of the day was around 25 inches.
