Yes I am still alive! I know I haven't posted much in a while but I'm always keepin' an eye on what's happening here at the best page for NJ Fishing! Yes it is getting to be that time of year that we all wait for! This year it's goin to be a little earlier hoping for better weather conditions and another banner year like two years ago when everyone caught! This year it's going to be the second Saturday in October the 14th for all you guys and gals interested in attending. Here's your chance to experience what it's like to have a missile on the end of your line!!! Come on out and fish with some of NJ's best fisherman and learn a thing or two as well as having a great time! So mark it on your calendar and as time goes on more info will be posted. Any questions? Supposed to have friends coming in to stay with us on the 14th weekend so I aint gonna make it this year. If that changes then I'm in but highly doubtful. Rookies with rowboats and elec motors... Who've never EVER caught a hybrid... And no idea what tackle to bring/use? (Seriously, not even an idea)

What does one need for this? Bass pole too weak? "Deep sea" pole? Line? Bait or lures etc etc....

Ok ok, go ahead, make fun of me, I genuinely have no idea, but have a need to fill, call it 'bucket list' if u will, but I'd love to go...

(If my little rowboat is lame, I guess I could be somebody's "bitch on there boat" ?)

Leave the deep sea shit at home. No need for that. Small hooks, some shot or eggs and a reel with a nice smooth drag. 2500-3000 size would suffice if you're using spinning tackle.

If conditions are good you'll be ok with the 12ft. Just have pfd and enough power to navigate safely

You need a type I, II, III or V PFD on board for each person on the boat. Any person 12 and under must wear the PFD at all times.

Ski-belt type floatation devices are not USCG approved.

Life vests that go over your shoulders and around your chest basically. med bass gear will work fine. 10-12# is good. They're line snappers so make sure the drag is smooth and not too tight because a big one will take a run and snap your knot before you know wtf happened.

And also for everyone, consider using 1/0, 2/0 inline circle hooks with the glob of bait. They inhale that stuff on impact a lot of the time and the inline circle hooks work great from keeping it out of their throats. way too many floating belly up every year for no reason.

Hey gang, haven't been on the board in 4 or 5 years, my previous screen name was FishinJeep and I was at the Passaic River Pike tourney in 2012 or 2013 and have the bumper sticker to prove it. Since then I moved to south Jersey and got wrapped up in life... anyway, got rid of my tin boat and got my bigger project boat back in the water this year. Sun is up at 7 so most guys will be getting in water 630ish ready to roll out of lees

The last couple of M&G's it was cold and windy so I figured bump it up a week from the usual 3rd or last week of October maybe wasn't the best idea but it is what it is and we'll have a good time anyway as always! Have not been out on the water this season since I lost my first mate Yuma. The big red dog went to the big pond in the sky and just have not had the time & drive to get out on the H2O much but am making an exception for the HBMG, always a classic.

Hope it is a morning like two years ago-that was epic. Freezing fog on the carpets, it was like the beach scene from FULL METAL JACKET heading out.
The HB did not disappoint along with everything else on the rocks. This time I will not be throwing back all them crappie-fish tacos tomorrow night!

So even though I drove an hour and a half to see only one fish caught, it was still fun to meet those of you that had the opportunity to say hello. I'm going to try and make it up again if there's another attempt when the water cools down.

What started off a scrappy day finished up ok no Stripers but did manage 20 or so White Perch between Wayne and I.. 6 of which were mine granted .. they chomped the damn large herring too.. crazy. So, sadly, stripers are still on my bucket list LOL..

Would have liked to have met more of you guys but the day just wasn't planned like that. Oh well!

yea it was a slow bite only managed to get a 15" smallmouth in the back of bertlands island cove on a suspending smithwick rattlin rouge., worm haulers did not work, small jigs did not work, a rippin rap did not work,i ran out of ideas of what to throw at them. still had fun. pray for ice guys hope to have another one of these on the ice.:cool:

Great weather yesterday, that's about it, lol! I really wish the fish would've cooperated but sometimes it's just not meant to be. It was good to meet a couple new guys and it's always nice to see the familiar faces.

The marks were good and there were fish scattered just about everywhere. The big boys just had lockjaw for some reason. We moved around a lot and went into search mode and still couldn't make it happen. Hey, that's fishin'! Can't catch all the fish all the time. At least a few guys managed to get some panfish, walleye and runt Stripers. Better than nothing I guess. Keep on fishin' fellas! See you on the water!:D

Good time with the boys as usual. We left the floatilla to try to find some feeding fish. We plucked 9 Hybrids to 18" off one area, but the bite was hot for about 10 minutes, then turned into Perchapalooza. Right place at the right time I guess :confused:.

Na I agree Miley maybe we will have part two in a couple weeks once the weather cools off a bit and things stabilize a bit. Had a good time as usual even thought the target fish didn't cooperate! If you were looking for perch and large sunfish then it was a bonanza!!! Schools of them filled my fishfinder all day! Certainly a tough bite for the target species. We had big marks at 30' everywhere but nothing was chewing. The bizarre weather pattern has them all confused.

The militia started out jigging for walleyes and had a good crappie bite going on blade baits. After the action slowed down headed over to the orgy location and picked a few white perch and sunfish on the goo. Not seeing much action among the dozen or so boats decided to change tactics and hit the points with the blade baits and had relatively "good" action. Weird bite. Would pick up 2-3 fish right away and then it would go dead. Boat finished the day with 3 18" walleye, about 20 crappie to 13", and dozen panfish. My catch of the day was 75' of high quality anchor line that someone ditch because their anchor got snagged???

saw some 70's foretasted on the 'popular' weather sites. found those sites to be much less accurate than the less media influenced sites. I think they report weather based on ratings sometimes. Windfinder.com has been super accurate for me lately.
