What are the best saltwater pliers? For offshore fishing would you prefer to have a split ring feature or have separate split ring pliers (for swapping out jigs)?
Not looking to spend big $$ just best bang for the buck that will last. Also, cutting braid and mono/fluro is a MUST.

I've gone through a ton of pliers and love the Shimano ones I just bought. They're not titanium like some of pricey stuff, but at $50 the're solid with a split-ring and a very good braid cutter.

Or, you could get some advise and purchase a pair from one of our local and knowledgeable sponsor bait and tackle shops.

I could except none of them have provided any info thus far. I love supporting local businesses especially sponsors but the info on this site is extremely valuable from people who are actually using the products regularly.

Manley for ruggedness, serious pressure, and cutting wire and mono. Not as well suited for cutting braid, and they make no effort to be a combination tool.

Thanks Mike. I'm really looking for something capable of cutting both braid and mono as I tend to use braid a LOT.

I never found one for both braid n mono that worked equally well on both . That's my expierance , Manleys best fo most applications , likewise X tools or good scissors from braid !

I got the Cuda's, bit on the pricey side, don't try to cut a hook with them but no problems with. Mono or braid and they have a blunt nose with plent of torque to get the hook out. I got mine at the Reel Seat in Brielle and he carries the replacement carbide cutting points,if your like me, and try to cut a wire hook out of your thumb:mad: and they shatter(use dikes for that!) otherwise great pliers!! The needle nose seem to tweek too much to get the balls in to remove some jawbone hooked fishes, just my $.02

Well, realistically finding one pair of pliers for everything is impossible. But there are a few options. First off, the boomerang “cutters” are unmatched for cutting braided line and mono. Now for cutting hooks the “Manley super pliers” are essential. As far as offshore split ring pliers I find the cheap ones to be the best, reason being you’re offshore stuff happens fast and you’re gonna drop them. Just my opinion.

For cheap and good the ProFishco pliers at $15 are outstanding. They are stainless steel and will not bend or twist when removing hooks from marlin or swordfish. They cut braid and mono and have a hook sharpener integral to them.

2 X on the Boomerang.... Love these little scissors, they are sharp, compact and having the retractable lanyard is very handy... I wear mine around my neck when blackfishing when I know I'll be re tying a lot...
