Took a short solo trip yesterday morning from about 8 to 11. Had low clear water and mid 80s temps with bright blue skies. Tossed the usual stuff for a bit before deciding to anchor up and really work a decent stretch. Tied on an OLD frog lure I had and first cast, lure hits the water, a small pike swings and misses. Paused , twitch ,BANG, fish on!! Thought it was a little guy until it took off and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ...... :D Couple great jumps later, netted a FAT 33" pike. Couple pics and a few seconds of reviving and off he went. 👍👍

Followed that up with a couple river rat smallies until I hooked up a decent fish. Though it might be another pike until I saw some nice bronze go airborne. Measured out to 18" and also pretty fat!!! Not bad for a few hours cruising the ribber...... :D

Thanks all!!

Andy yeah the bugs can be bad out there, usually worse from shore than in the boat but I've gotten bit on the boat pretty bad before too. That day wasn't bad though. And, if you go out at night without the spray, good luck!!!

Thymorke, I always use 50-60# flouro leader in the river. Never know when a nice pike could hit whatever you're throwing and you definitely don't want to lose it... Also, doesn't seem to keep the other fish from hitting. It can make topwater lures a bit more challenging though......

Cardinal, these were pretty ideal conditions. Low, but not too low, and clear. Other than bluebird skies and heat, couldn't have been much better.

nice fish! It's so much easier to land fish from the boat, but some spots are just too loaded up with fallen trees unfortunately.

but much more satisfying with a "mudslide to tree root finish" thrown in!

judge cards- 8.8 9.2 9.8 8.6 :D
