Beat up the lower South Branch pretty good today. Started near Clinton falls but below Rt. 78 by accessing the service road behind Cracker Barrel near the STP (sewage treatment plant) Easy spot to launch a boat or canoe from here if you are ever interested. Worked our way down the river till we came to the "lake" This was formed when they needed dirt to build Rt. 78, since then the river filled it in with water. Only got a few dinks through here but a great spot with deep runs.
Next stop was the Hamden Road stretch. Here we actually did ok on trout. I lost a nice one up at the S bend then got another smaller one. Nyle got a nice Rainbow further down.
After that it was Stanton Station, had high hopes on this stretch, come up with a trout or two and a few dink smb.
Drove further down yet and hit Neshanic. Walked a lot and got a few nicer smb (nothing photo worthy)
Sneakers and shorts were the dress code for the day. Water looked great and the levels were nice.
I'm still pretty one note with my lure selection as I stuck with my jigs all day, I really need to change it up a bit, I'm so bad with lures.

No idea of water temps, feeder creeks were COLD !!! I give trout a lot more credit than most when it comes to holding over for the summer.

Well it looks like it was a fantastic Monday. Those stocked Rainbows will find a way to survive somewhere in the ribber during the dog days of summer. Good looking pics!!!:D

Kick ass. A day before that was all chocolate milk and a foot higher. Nice to see stockies surviving too, I saw plenty of dead ones after we had a heat wave a few weeks ago.

An air conditioner in the river! What a novel way to keep the water cold enough for those trout to survive during the summer! Every mud puddle stocked with early season trout should have one.

Years ago, there were reported catches of N. Pike in "the lake".

The S. Branch is classified Trout Maintenance down to the lower end of Packers Island, just upstream of the Rt. 31 Bridge.

Andy, I know you like the jigs but give the keitechs a try. Fished it for the first time on the river near SBB earlier this week. 1st cast had a hit, 3rd cast got a smb. Had a few more in the 2 hours I spent there.
