Hit the river yesterday hoping for a nice peaceful day of fishing. Peaceful it was! Grabbed 3 dozen Shiners and some worms from my buddy James and off I went. Launched the boat at 12 noon and found some action almost immediately. Bait rods were out and I was jigging while waiting. Channel cats were in a vicious feed mode early the afternoon which usually doesn't happen in the summer. We all know "Night time is the right time" when it comes to summer fishing in the sweet water!!! But whatever happened to finesse fishing? Its a good time that gets the late night fish to bite during the day. While jigging all day not one bait rod went off, weird! All fish fell for the jighead tipped with a plastic and a live bait to top it off. Pink with a white finesse minnow was the hot color, just add live bait. Kinda looks like an underwater buffet to a hungry curious predator. Managed to net 7-8 Channels and 3 Walleye jigging from 12-5 in the afternoon! The biggest Channel measured 32 inches and weighed 14 lbs 8 ounces. The rest were cookie cutters around 4-6 lbs. Good times in the river current on the ultra lite Walleye jigging rod. I really thought the rod was going to blow up at one point as the beast took me for a long 20 minute ride! SHEEEEEESH!!! The Walleye were all small males, 1 @ 18 inches on the nose, 1 @ 18.5, pictured and 1 short around 16 inches. Some really good mid day action. Kept on fishing hoping to get into some more fish during magic hour but I ran out of bait around 7 pm. Some small fish kept ripping the shiners off the damn jig. No happy hour for me so I left at 730 pm satisfied with the catch of the day. Beautiful day on the water!

TIGHT LINEZ!!!:D

Amazing cats especially for the middle of the day. I wonder if all that rain in the early morning got them switched on for feeding.

Took a look at all the creeks, streams and rivers on the way to my spot! All blown out badly. Got up to the D and saw clear water maybe slightly stained! Storm must've missed the big river somehow! I'm sure the kitty's felt the front and decided to chew! Strange day!!!

Very nice!! Weird that cats would prefer a lure over a bait.

Sat. afternoon, wading the muddy Del. R., just south of Frenchtown I caught several Channel Cats up to 20” on crawdad tails. The biggest one took out some drag from my father’s old Penn Squidder.

There he is! Nj's very own river monster hunter! Was wondering where you've been! I was expecting a big flathead when I read the posts headline. Soon enough though! Monster channel!

Good to see that you've completed your vessel too. No fish is safe now haha!

Wow, that's some catfish.

I was up there about two weeks ago and the catfish were biting more aggressively than the bass in the afternoon which is surprising. Catfish are equipped with the sensory organs to hunt for food at night - but that doesn't stop them from being capable predators in the daytime, also.

Nice job there buddy. Haven't caught a cat in a long time. Might have to change that up. But the River smallies been cooperating nicely so it's hard to change gears.
