Feeling good hitting up a bunch of the old haunts. Split Rock is pretty much the same as I left it a few years ago.
Did ok, lugged all my crap down the hill including my very light 14 ft. Grumman boat. Had help today with a young man who is a friend of a friend.
We stayed in front, between low battery level and time restraints we didn't venture into the back. Anchored along fishy locations anywhere between 20 and 15 ft. deep. Had a slow pick most of the mornin', a perch here, a slime dart there, nothing really exciting.
Hit a bail out spot near the ramp before taking out and we started to manage a decent SMB bite. Dropped 2 fairly large fish, grrrrrrr ! Nailed one slob fish and it turned out to be a Brown Bullhead of all things, I think this guy could have given the state record a run for the money. I have caught big bullheads at night in RV, but this guy was really big, 3lbs easy, pushing 4 !! No weigh in, just let him go.
Bait was good, got my usual 10 dozen, but for the Rock it's all shiners. Glad to one bait shop FINALLY carrying JUMBO shiners, at $10.00 a dozen for the jumbos though  I could easily see going Lake O mode and tossing those big shiners right into the salad during the summer, can't do it with 4 pound test though :)
Place was busy with kayaks and the like. Someone created a garbage pile and I made sure to clean all that up before I left, I even policed the parking lot for more trash but it looked pretty clean. What's with the traffic light at the bridge !!

You're the only guy who would prefer posting pictures of trash than a fish.

Lol jk... but would have liked to see that sloppy bullhead.

I've only caught half-footers

No crappie huh? I can't leave that place without catching at least 1 good size slab! Thanks for picking up after the slobs again!!!

andy good report, sorry you had to clean up after lazy carefree people who think that that it's ok to leave trash at such a great place.the smallmouths are doing well in that place. glad you got a good one, i rarely catch slime darts in the front by the dam, they are found after the big island in the back also shocked to hear you did not get any crappies or perch. you gotta love that launch its not for wimps.very nice bullhead as well.
