Late nite hoggin'-- 5/9/17

No I wasn't at the bar seducing big chicks last night. I was, however, on a river and was fortunate enough to seduce a pig smallie. She mustve liked my wiggle... taped at 20" on the button and was def prespawn bc her gut was massive. Must've been all of 4+ lbs. Fought like the dickens too. Multitude of aerials to shake the hook to no avail!

Great fish! What did you catch that tank on? I have never had much luck targeting smallmouth at night. My buddy just pulled a similar size smallie (19") out of the Delaware this morning on a Joe's fly spinner. I may need to break out the headlamp and hit the river this evening, jealous of all the smallmouth action past few days...

The beasts come out at nite. Find a deep slow pool after fast water and throw big stuff--chatterbaits, soft plastics, stick baits and plugs. When it gets warmer post spawn all black buzzbaits are killer.

Can't wait to get my first river small mouth of the year. My favorite type of freshwater fishing for sure. Nothing like wading a quiet peaceful stretch of river when the weather is warm and a mean ass smallie explodes from the surface and shocks you back to reality and the fight is OOOONNNNNNN! That'll get ya fired boy.

I followed my own advice and despite temps dipping into the high 40s managed to wrangle myself a nice late night hog around midnight. Unfortunately it was a Larry and not quite 20" but still made my exhaustion as I head to the office today worth it!
