I just purchased a kayak and was looking for recommendations on places to fish in it. I'm from central jersey (Woodbridge area) but I drive all over to fish. I normally fish round valley in my 14 ft aluminum boat but I have problems with my trailer so I switched to the kayak for the season. Any recommendations would help a lot.. thanks guys

The d+r canal, I've seen people paddle in canoes there but idk about fishing + paddling. Seems like you'd have to paddle up then drift and fish downstream, right?

I live just north of you in Cranford and sadly there aren't that many great options close by for kayaking. I mostly kayak in the Rahway river out of convenience but if I have the time I think the South Branch is about the best place around for a kayak float. If I am solo I will usually bring my bike and stash it around where I plan to get out (preferably somewhere secluded since I need to stash the kayak while I ride the bike back to where I parked the car upstream). Another option to the south is Deal Lake. I really like kayaking that lake and the fishing is pretty good.

I always thought that a good one would be to put in the Delaware River @ Bulls Island. Drift & fish to where the Wickecheeoke Creek enters the river near Prallsville Mill, Stockton. Hump the kayak up to the D&R Canal for the paddle back.

All of the electric only lakEs are fine for kayaks. The ones with 10 hp limits are also like RV, Spruce run and Merril creek. Pick your days and try not to go alone but some of the best fishing of the year is just a few miles from you in Raritan Bay.

Head north. Bigger, deeper lakes up here with more options for the "cool" species (pike, muskie, hybrids, walleye, salmon etc.).

Try Westons Mill Pond. With a kayak you'll be able to hit the pad beds in the back for bass and you'll have some fun catching pickerel everywhere else. Also, the Raritan is right near you, that's great kayak water.

+1 with skunk.
Even some of bigger rivers up here have some great fishing too.

Take the ride to Spruce Run. It was the first placed I launched at when I got my yak. You won't be disappointed. The hybrids are well worth the trip.

Spruce run, round valley, assapink, furnace lake, giving pond in PA, south branch from camp karr to below duke island are also fantastic.
The run from camp karr to just outside flemington has fantastic smallie populations.

Went to Furnace with 2 other buddies last Sunday. Cold front, no action. The 3 of use caught one dink bass.
On my way home I stopped at a local pond, not a single hit in an hour. I was sight casting at the fish, they wanted nothing to do with my baits.
Going to try again this Sunday, but the weather is looking cold. Might be the same outcome.

That is not a Great Lake for a hobie
wondering why you say that? assupink is on my list of "lakes I used to fish as a kid 20 years ago that I want to return to with my hobie one day"

It was my 1 st there and don't know the lake but almost every part of the lake I was in was too shallow and had to pull my drive and rudder
