A heads up on the Saddle River.
There is a guy/nut job who likes to throw rocks at fisherman/in the water behind his house. The house is 87 Jeffer Court in Ridgewood. The river runs behind the house, but there is public access via the Ridgewood duck pond/dirt path. The area is between the park and linwood ave along a rock wall with a lot of boulders. I was there last year with my son and yelling at me and throwing rocks from his backyard. This year he was on the rock wall throwing stuff into the river. I asked him "is there a reason you are doing that?" "His response - I ****ing feel like it...you don't own the river". Explained to him I was trying to fish. Kept going on and was throwing sticks and rocks at my line. I continued up the river and he continued ot throw rocks at my line and where I was fishing. Was going to call the cops - but he was back in his house by the time I got back to the area. I was afraid he was going to try to push me in the river from the wall...
Tense situation that I walked away from.
He's nuts.
He's got black hair and gauges in his ears...
Be safe if you fish this area.

Video tape him on your phone. Call the cops and ask that he be charged with violating
23:7A-2. Hindering or preventing the lawful taking of wildlife prohibited; specific acts prohibited

I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds like this guy is breaking several laws, not the least of them being angler harassment. Anglers and hunters are specifically protected from harassment of this type.
As someone said, your phone is capable of shooting video - use it to document the crime.
Here is the statue:
23:7A-2. Hindering or preventing the lawful taking of wildlife prohibited; specific acts prohibited
No person may, for the purpose of hindering or preventing the lawful taking of wildlife:
a. block, obstruct, or impede, or attempt to block, obstruct, or impede, a person lawfully taking wildlife;
b. erect a barrier with the intent to deny ingress to or egress from areas where wildlife may be lawfully taken;
c. make, or attempt to make, unauthorized physical contact with a person lawfully taking wildlife;
d. engage in, or attempt to engage in, theft, vandalism, or destruction of personal or real property;
e. disturb or alter, or attempt to disturb or alter, the condition or authorized placement of personal or real property intended for use in the lawful taking of wildlife;
f. enter or remain upon public lands or waters, or upon private lands or waters without permission of the owner thereof or an agent of that landowner, where wildlife may be lawfully taken;
g. make or attempt to make loud noises or gestures, set out or attempt to set out animal baits, scents, or lures or human scent, use any other natural or artificial visual, aural, olfactory, or physical stimuli, or engage in or attempt to engage in any other similar action or activity, in order to disturb, alarm, drive, attract, or affect the behavior of wildlife or disturb, alarm, disrupt, or annoy a person lawfully taking wildlife; or
h. interject himself into the line of fire of a person lawfully taking wildlife.
Subsections a., b., e., f., and g. of this section shall not apply to a law enforcement officer or conservation officer enforcing the laws of this State or any local ordinance, or a private landowner or agent thereof on land or waters owned by that private landowner.

hahaha exactly what i was thinking
this is exactly what the angler/hunter harassment laws are for. bet this guy will change his tune after a visit from a DEP CO.
maybe you already have, but just to cover your a**, i'd double check the tax map and see exactly where his property ends before trying to get him on video. just so you can be 100% sure you're in the clear, because i'm sure he'd try to press for trespassing charges if the path happened to be in the wrong spot.

I would be willing to get a bunch of us together, and just 1 of us walk up ahead and start fishing where the trouble spot is, and when the earring "FREAK" comes out to confront that person, about 10 of us roll out of the woods and surround him. Then we will see what he has to say. Or, next time, just bring a buddy and have him lay back, and video tape the whole thing, and bring it to the cops, and end this bullshit. I'm not from the area, but I WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP IN ANY WAY.

I'm sure Joey Z has some helmets we can borrow, I'd be down, I still have some troutin in me for a bit, but the salt is coming out heavy! I'd just set the guy up...get video and have proof... even if it is his property, it's not only wrong, but possibly lethal, authority must be notified, just saying on a forum isn't good enough, this could help somebody else as well, report could most likely be done on the computer even, it's worth a few minutes.

the house is set back. if you go to satellite image you will see a silver car infront of it. if you zoom out to aerial - you can see the rock wall behind the house. There is a public bike patch between the property and the river.
When I zoom into the house it look like either 87 or 187 on the house. but this is it.

f that, never argue with crazy. if I was with my kid, I would have called the non emergency ph# for ridgewood pd asap and let them handle it, theres not much going on in ridgewood and im pretty sure the pd up there lives for calls like this. if I was alone, I cant say it would have went well.

When I click on the house, it comes up as 161 Jeffer Ct.
I checked the tax records to see who owns it and it looks like the house is a rental because the owner has a different address in Mahwah.

EDIT - Maybe call the homeowner and let him know about the strange behavior of the person renting his property.

I've fished here b4. It's usually the last spot I fish while traveling through the entire park. Went there yesterday for a bit and found some chubs and trout. Seen some suckers as well but none were Mr. Plugs. Packed up and observed the area while having a smoke and called it. Only saw suckers in the water. I'm kinda busy today...soo who's gonna be wetting a line?

Edit: edited 2 days later to shake my head.

I prefer the Glen Rock park, myself ;) This is a long walk for me, but close enough for the m&g! I've got a cache of fireworks from the last trip to Ohio...good ones too. Snakes AND Sparklers, baby!
LOL, I told my wife about this post today, and we were both cracking up. What a bozo!

Thanks for the heads up. My son and I were there yesterday and did not encounter this fellow. However, people like to let their dogs run into our fishing spot and pretend they were sorry... :mad:

yes the dogs off leash in the river are a problem as well. there is a dog park...no need to bring your dog into the river. not only is it rude - it's dangerous. glass, sharp objects and very deep mud spots.
i've stepped in places along the bank that look like solid ground and you sink knee deep in mud.
as for the nut job - i have not been back to that particular spot since the incident. last year he was throwing rocks from his backyard.

@tradingfrank - were you at the boulder wall down the dirt path toward linwood ave? that's the trouble spot.
