Finally got out for the first time in 2017 this past Monday. Had great conditions, temps in the 50s, flows just a bit above average, and overcast skies. Took a nice 2-3 hour hike and found plenty of action!!! All I could seem to catch were big browns?!?! :D

Action wasn't steady but whenever I got bit, it was a good fish. First fish was easily my best stream fish and possible PB. My previous being a lake caught stocked breeder. The good flows made the fight even tougher. Caught 3 browns total. Even the small one was a really nice fish!!!! Couldn't have asked for a better kickoff to the new season......

Nice but im a bit confused, havent browns not been stocked- only rainbows for the last few years? If so those are some sick holdovers, extra credit there.

There can be wild browns in NJ!

I always considered wild ones to be pretty small, mostly cause the trout production streams are small themselves. thats pretty cool though, good to know there are still big browns and not just rainbows

Thanks all. No, these are not Jersey fish. Took a trip out to PA to grab a license and fish a bit. Definitely got way more than I expected which made the trip well worth it!!

Wow. beautiful fish. congrats.

Saw a pic today of a sea run brown that was supposedly caught while striper fishing in NJ. looked to be double digits.

An angler sent me a photo of a nice (24”, 5lb.) brown that he caught & released in the Del. River just upstream of Lambertville. He was jigging for Walleyes.
Thought the brown might be a sea run, but it didn’t look like it to me.
Either a stockie or wild fish (the fins looked nice) that came swam from a cold tributary to the now, uniformly cold, mainstem Del. R.
