Supposed to get warm this weekend & with no ice this year I was wondering if the crappies would be in the coves yet, what temp do they usually start?

Mid 40's ( water temp) I usually start catching them on points and areas close to spawning areas. Consistency in the water temp is the biggest factor. In ice free years like this I have caught them in deeper parts of the lake as well on jigs and fatheads.

Come up by me Murray and I will put you on them. It's getting to be that time and I got a perch spot that can't miss!!!! You'll be seeing my pics soon and you're always welcome up by me.

I'm gonna be out there looking for them in a couple weeks myself but I'm thinking they'll be a little deeper for a bit still. I can't wait either way!

I jigged a bunch up through the ice last weekend in a spot where I normally do well ice-out, so I would say they are there a little early this year.

I can confirm the crappies are in the coves by me. They are still hanging out deep though. Fish your baits slow and keep them small. The water I fish, they seem to hit WHITE hard. Tried other colors and they weren't interested.

Last Sunday I caught and released 13 black crappies to 10" with a 1/32 oz white leadhead jig and 1" white twister tail on 2 lb test line in a 56 degree Central Jersey beaver pond. When I returned yesterday I only landed 5 in 52 degree water. Looks like a bobber is best in cold water.

I'm not a crappie fisherman but I jigged them up in two lakes through the ice in the past 2 weeks.
