So my job sent us home early because of the snow storm. So what’s a man supposed to do? Shovel snow? Clearly Not!! Grab your fishing gear and head on out in sub 20F temps and 10 inches of snow. We went out for approximately 45 minutes cause the sun went down fast and the cold weather absolutely froze our fingers numb.

Landed a nice crappie, released and kept fishing. Next few cast…BAM…Fish On. Big girl too and I landed her clean. Ide say approximately 4lbs. How great is this I thought to myself. 4lb-r in freezing temps and fresh snow in February. Jon landed a small bass and a few nice Crappie. I set the hook on something that hit hard and she tugged left and right and tried to run and go deep again. Got her to the shore and was like WOW, big big girl. Went to lift her out of the water (without lipping her 1st) and she snapped the 12lb flouro leader. I literally jumped in the water and in one swift motion scooped her up with my hands and tossed her onto the fluffy snow. (hence why she has snow on her in the pictures). Snapped a few photos and put the big girl back in.

Too cold and fingers weren’t really working anymore to re-tie my line. I said F it, I’m done fishing. Just sat and drank my beer slushy beverage and enjoyed the rest of the outing. Jon caught a few more crappie and we took off before our fingers turned black.

Wow great catch nice dedication in the cold... I went out Wednesday and my biggest problem was deciding to fish in a tee shirt or keep my sweatshirt on lol what a difference a day makes good old jersey weather...

Sweet fish, what kind of lures are you throwing?

Small white jig with a gulp swimming freshwater mullet in white. Pretty much a crappie rig with a curly tail. 3' grub.
It's deadly for anything from a sunfish to Monster bass.

Thanks Gentlemen.
Hoping for warmer temps at this point.
I think we have all had enough of winter after this last weekend of freezing rain and sleet.

Honey hole! I'd black out the backgrounds to save that place from being recognized by the bucket brigade.

Damn those bucket brigaders. Cant they just go to shoprite and buy some fish to eat. Leave the Game Fish alone. ahahahaha

Cant beat a white grub, its a catch all for sure. Just curious how you work it in the dead of winter. Do you have to do a slow retrieve on the bottom, or are you jigging it? Again, Kudos to you guy's for killing it in the winter.

Nothing special really. Same as you would casting from shore and reeling it in during warm months.
Just slow it down since the fish are sluggish. I think in the winter, the key is finding where the fish are hiding. Once you find the spot or a pocket, just keep presenting the baits over and over and over. Nice and slow. Eventually they will wake up and eat it or strike cause they are annoyed.

Brings back memories! Used to fish winter straight on through, when had the time. Got out on RVR once in January this year. Will this month, but bass, got to admit; they're special in the cold. They might seem dumber with snow on the ground, in a way, but I never lose my affections for them when caught in the cold! Great catches!
