I had to work half a day, but I always have a rod in my car so I decided to stop at a pike spot on the Passaic. After a couple of casts, I found a nice fat pike right where I expected him to be.

Decided to grab my ultralite go explore some areas for my absolute favorite trout: wild browns.
The first area I hit was new territory. It started off a little slow, but I soon landed a nice rainbow. The fish was likely a wild rainbow. The trout was flawless, no fin rubs and great coloration. As i lifted her from the net, she dropped a few eggs so was in full spawn mode as well. Snapped a quick picture and sent her on her way. Looked around a little more and managed a small wild brown.

Didn't find much more in that area, so I made a move to another spot. The wild browns were aggressive and willing to cooperate. They were quality fish, with a couple in the 14" to 15" range. The big fish of the day was right around 15 inches. The fish were fully of energy, tearing, jumping and somersaulting across the river.

I ended the day with a handful of wild browns, a wild rainbow and a few missed and lost fish. A great day for January!
