So we tried ice fishing a few weeks ago when it was under 20 degrees outside and we thought for sure Tilcon would be frozen. It was a Big Fail as Tilcon was wide open and only a few sections had ice. We said F*** it and only ventured out a few feet fearing weak ice. It was a halfhearted attempt at best to simply beat the cabin fever. So … we’ve been patiently waiting for the melt to finally happen to have some open fishable water. The in-between stages of weak ice and no Open water SUX.
This Sunday we hit my local ponds (after I had scouted the ice situation on Saturday and realized they were all just about melted). From Noon to 3pm, 7 bass on small jigs with Gulp minnows or curly tails. Not bad considering I didn’t think anything would bite, yet alone the bass. No idea where the crappie and perch were hiding. Will try to find them next go around.
Long story short, we got Open water gentlemen and the bass are still biting. Go out and fish and forget about the ICE for now.:)
