With fishable ice at a premium and the boat in the middle of its winter slumber I decided to dig out the trout gear in an effort to break the cabin fever.

Got to the river around noon and had a camera shy trout on the line within 10 minutes. Waded the river for about 3 hours and had consistent action in the deeper pools. Finished the day hooking 5 and landing 3 to a thick 15.5". The fish were very aggressive and acrobatic with multiple jumps and drag peels.

Surprisingly it was much warmer standing in the water than on the bank.

Beautiful colors on these fish.

Those are some solid trout. Lucky that you got to get out on the water this time of year.

Very nice! Glad to see winter is being cooperative. Might have to make time later in the week since we got some rain and warmer temps.

I did some stream trouting this weekend as well. Water was still pretty low despite some of the precipitation we've had lately. Managed a 15.5 inch rainbow throwing a wooly bigger (actually a variation of the bugger called an orange blossom) on the spinning rod. Also managed a surprise fish on the same setup...thought it was gigantic trout but instead was a sucker. Has anyone ever seen a sucker hit an artificial???
