mikey assured me he was sandbagging winning fish for the ice contest so i threw in the towel and just went open water fishing :p

jdtuna and i took advantage of the next to nothing wind forecast and tried to jig some lakers. they were extremely picky, i don't think the overcast helped. we found a few 60-70' deep, a few came unbuttoned, and many nudges were not hooked up. Tried a bunch of different lures, but they just didn't want to cooperate too much today i guess.

It looks like at least one fish decided to cooperate !!!! Great picture and great job getting out in the open water this time of year !!!!

Thanks Chris......my back is feeling much better ( after the second surgery)....still taking it easy and not pushing it....no hunting and no kayaking this winter, so hope to be ready for the spring. A nice kayak trip all set for Panama at the end of May, so just being careful until then....

They were certainly picky, but we got a couple in the boat!

aw come on chris you have to keep a positive attitude with the ice it's gotta get better soon very nice lake trout you got there.man those lakers got some impressive teeth glad to see you did not get skunked besides it's kind of hard to get skunked when you are fishing with the angler of the year,jd tuna in the boat:cool:
