Wondering if any of you ice fisherman would share some tips & techniques on gathering bait fish during the winter months in NJ and what types of water bodies hold good concentrations of bait fish? Not looking for specific locations unless you want your bait spot mugged. Specifically bigger baits like chubs, suckers, goldens, fallfish, etc... Traps, rod/reel, lures or hook and baits etc??

Every spot I find seems to dry up but pools of rivers are usually good with a little worm bait or trout magnet. I'm having some issues getting bait this year, I figure someone mugged my spot already.

Clinton falls used to be one stop shopping for suckers and creek chubs. Small bits of worm.

Non stocked Creeks you can use cast nets. One good throw and you could have enough suckers and Creek clubs for weeks. Problem is finding a good Creek that isn't stocked and holds bait

Other creeks and ponds a small hook and worm I catch golden shinners trout and other bait. Than last resort I'll buy trout from musky trout hatchery

Thanks for the tips gentlemen. Thanks to some of the generous PM's i received also! Time to put the mobile bait tank in the trunk and do some exploring.
