Was looking but no luck. Put in a good shift last night in beautiful weather with a few kitties and perch to show for 6+ hours

Last day out until February with the warm weather and rain coming.....a nice rare little tiger muskie to add the icing on a good day on the ice

Nice, but gotta have a conversation. Could be a pike with off markings, or if it's a tiger we can add it to the muskie category
After a second look many of the stripes are broken and have typical pike markings, you can best see this above the anal fin. My opinion could be a pike pickerel hybrid

Looks like a hybrid mix to me, but still a beautiful fish.

that is no doubt a pike pickerel hybrid...pretty cool, i've never seen one in person. the black mark on the eye gives it away if you ask me.

Hey you trying to steal my fish iceusky? Hahaaa I caught him a few days ago. I thought it was a pike/pickerel hybrid not a musky.

Delewareriver, I have done some picture research on the internet and the fish does resemble identical markings and coloration of a pike/pickerel hybrid. Since there is no hybrid category and it's not an exact pike nor a pickerel it wount be fair to put it into the pickerel or pike catergory. I would believe this fish is a perfect oddball candidate specimen since it's a mixed (hybrid). In this case it happens rarely and it's the first time I ever seen such a thing in person as most people can say the same.

njflyfisher that may be the same one or a different one lmao. What are the odds looks like the contest judges will have a nice debate. Gives us good ideas for future contests.

No problem icemusky I 100% agree it's hybrid and the odd ball category is where it belongs

Not sure if judging is needed but I'll give my 2 cents that I agree it does belong in the oddball category because it clearly seems to be neither a pike or pickerel but a hybrid. And even though it may very well be the same fish, ice muskys fish is pictured to be a bit longer. Njfly fisher straighten your fish out a bit bud. Might be costing you some length

It's definitely not a hybrid. It's a pike with unique markings. I see a lot of odd, variable markings on smaller pike. Here is one from the Passaic with similar markings.

Hmmm...when looking up pike pickerel hybrids online they look similar to the fish that I caught. And I've caught many 15-25 inch pike that looked like normal pike. Fish are weird lmao

nah i'm standing behind the pike pickerel hybrid...the dark vertical band on the eye says pickerel all the way, pike don't have that dark band right...it's either a pickerel with weird marks or a pike/pickerel hybrid...it has some pickerel in it if you ask me. it's probably a mutant from that toxic waste dump haha.
and btw it is no doubt the same fish, the markings are identical.

Well, I'm always ready to admit when I'm wrong. I stand corrected...it does appear to be a pike/chain pickerel hybrid. Just like the one I caught above. Here is a little reading on it:

I'm a pretty fair guy and all judges/fisherman seem to have great points. I would put this odd ball catergory to be panned out at the end as we still got half of winter yet. I would definitely put the tiger musky as a hybrid odd ball as it should be and if someone catches one it'll make it that much easier to choose the winner of the catergory. Easier said than done i know. Tight lines I think it's time to re-condition the well used icefishing gear for next month's use.

Tiger muskies we have always grouped in with the muskie category just to make it easier and they can obtain 40+" lengths. Pike pickerel hybrids are not common and definitely an oddball fish
