Me and my DIE HARD wife decided to head out to Round Valley yesterday for some Bass fishing. Before we could even put the boat in the water I wanted to see if the ramp was safe enough, because it looked frozen. I backed the boat down the ramp just to get close, went very slow, as I applied the brakes, I ended up sliding back about 15 feet on the ice before stopping before the water. Being the die hards we are, we both decided that nothing was gonna stop us, so I put my neoprene gloves on, grabbed a empty cardboard box out of the back of the car, and went to the lake side and filled up multipal boxes of rocks and sand to make a runway for the tires in the ice. After about 35 minutes of lining up the tracks for the tires, I gave it a try and crossed my fingers.... BAM, worked like a champ, as if i was on dry ground. We knew it was early (about 7:30) when we got there, and the ramp would be melted away by the time we were ready to leave. Well glad we stuck it out, we did pretty good (in my opinion for winter fishing) We fished with a setup that I thought would catch Small and LM bass, among Trout etc., well it proved me right, we ended up catching 5 Largemouth, no Small, and 1 4-5 lb rainbow, and had a couple others that were fighting VERY hard, but broke off (no idea what they were). With the crazy weather we had on the lake, rain, Heavy winds at times, I was only able to get a picture of the Bigger Bass my wife caught. At about 2:30 a WILD storm blew in like a beast, the flashing strobe lights came on, I waited the storm out, (basically beached the boat by one of the pump houses just to be safe) then headed for the ramp, which by this time was fully defrosted. All in all a GREAT day of open water fishing.

You are definitely die hard, especially with the wind. I've learned not to even consider RV if the predictiion is for 15+ MPH winds because you can add another 5 to 10 MPH to whatever the weather reports say there, and it can get pretty hairy. Nice bass though. I've seen some huge bass come out of RV, but I only get dinks.

What did you catch the Bass on?

Caught all bass on a 1/8 inch jighead with a 4" green (watermelon) worm.

Me and the wife hit RVR again on Friday 12/23 and had another good day, ended up with 8 LM bass between us, nothing huge, but a lot fun fun this time of year. I think I'm gonna try Merrill Creek this coming weekend.
