I'm going to be heading down to Manasquan tomorrow for some fall striper action. I have been only been surf/pier fishing 5-10 times caught some flounder and blues but never managed to catch a striper. I went to Dicks today and got some lures to use including swim shads, various jigs, 6in rap, spook, popper, large bucktails as well as some freshwater basics I needed. I'm going to use a 8 ft medium action Shakespeare rod with a KastKing spinning reel with 30 lb mono. I know the ocean is about the right temp and the hurricane should create rough surf witch I think is good. I know surffishing isn't about catching fish, but I would like to know I have a chance at getting a fish. Any tips or anything that could assist me tomorrow. Thanks in advance and tight lines.

action should start to pick up over the next few weeks. next time, instead of going to a big box store, try getting your gear and tackle from a local bait shop. you'll probably pay a bit more, but in exchange you'll get good advice which could make for a very successful trip! :)

I made 78 evening trips on the Manasquan Inlet north jetty last year and caught stripers on 3 of those trips. Morning fishing is better.
