after catching zero...that's right zero fluke (no shorts, no fluke lost in the fight, nothing) last weekend, we had to redeem ourselves sunday. glad we didn't end our season with that last trip haha. anyway, we got out early and I had 3 keepers in the box between 18-20" within less than 40 minutes light bucktailing with gulp and squid.
After that it def slowed down but the biggest fish of the day came up for john during a big lull on a bait rig. Bait didn't catch close to as many fish as bucktailing but it did get the biggest one for our day! A second bite window happened (both windows at about half way through tides) and we whacked away at them again. John pulled in a second big keeper and i got my 4th keeper for the day both bucktailing.
Not a ton of fish caught and had to work for them, but 6 keepers between two guys was a decent day and the 4 and 5 pounders were awesome.
so we're about to fillet the fish at dock and I notice this:
One of the fluke had two top sides! not just brown stained on the belly...both sides were topsides past the gill plate. has anyone ever seen this before? we haven't. the belly side was white on the face but then was thick (not flat) and the skin was brown camo like the top. And you know how the flesh of the back and belly are different...both fillets were the color of the top so it wasn't just the skin! pictures attached!
