decided to brave the north end of the lake today. wasn't too bad out there,so i actually got to do some fishin.get to spot #1 throw out a swimin plug.second cast i get hit and its the first brid of the season. i usually don't fish for them.i was fishing for largemouth on a weedline at 8' deep and got a 14.5 brid.also caught 5 crappies and a 12 " larry on the god bless america jig.the crappies were in the 11" range.fished from 5:30 till 7:30. there was alot of bait fish hitting the surface as i was leaving.tried a torpedo but no luck.

Sounds like you stayed busy, that's wuts up!! I got straight out fished by my girl 2day! She bagged a nice 3lb bucket mouth, a solid bluegill, & a hearty 12” yellow perch/ I bagged 2dink bass & a skinny dart! Would've been glad to have a visit by a wiper but none in the drink we were@. What pound test were you using? Good thing he didn't break you off, 14.5 is a nice lil surprise!

Pretty cool. I haven't fished Hopatcong, but on the lakes I do fish I've been striking out on those weedlines. Having a brid like that must have been a surprise and a nice fight on your setup.

i use 8lb test on a 6'6" st croix with a penn 710z reel. its all about keeping your drag set properly. i really don't fish for brids or muskys, mostly i fish for smallmouth and largemouth bass, perch and crappies.my other rods are ugly sticks. a 7' baitcaster with a penn 955 and med action spincast with a cardinal reel with 6lb test. 12lb test on the 955,love my jig-n-pigs

Nice selection- my jig-pig rod is a 6-6 uglystik with a pflueger Trion (size 40) usually 8-12 or heavy braid- but I usually do 5 foot light with a 20 size president or my actually 4 foot ultralight- I'm very guilty of always under fishing-really need to upsize sometimes

Edit - I re read ur post - I thought u caught a bird!(nights- ugh) then got a 14.5 hybrid- my mistake - still nice selection.
