Ol chrisper has been on his flathead hunt but not having much luck. I've giving him some tips on where to fish and what to look for. After another tough trip for him I invited him down to try a local spot right up the road from me and away from all fishing pressure of other areas.

Headed out to my around 8 and got set up. Took a little while but the night was perfect. No wind and dark finally well after dark chrisper hooks up which turnd out to be a quality 6-7 lb channel. gets reset and same Rod starts letting some line out. He sets the hook and instantly knows..... it's another small fish. Kinda hit like a channel and 100% fought like a channel but cute lititle river monster surprised us

Several minutes later I missed a run then quiet. Good hour and half passed. Some good talk with chrisper as he is so knowledgeable on so many fishieries. He mentioned if we might have a flurry of action around the moon rise and on cue a few minutes after 11 within minutes of the moon rise, I have a solid run, fish feels solid and bends my rod over good but I feel the hook slide and slip out of the mouth. Grab another bait but before I manage to cast my other rod goes off. Solid run, solid hook set, and this time the hook finds the corner of the mouth solidily of a solid fish. Scale showed 18lbs, no monster but pretty good for the delaware. http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae342/delawareriver/Mobile%20Uploads/20160823_225806.jpg (http://s986.photobucket.com/user/delawareriver/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160823_225806.jpg.html) while taking pictures chrisper had a run that dropped the bait before getting to it. Few more short half runs before we cleaned up at midnight.

Awesome! Great looking invasive cats! Flathead mania is going wild in NJ! These things are like Gremlins, they multiply with water, haha! :D

Nice job! Do these cats like the deeper holes? Never tried for them or caught one yet but I do know of a very deep hole that I don't think is hammered for cats on the D. Believe it goes 40-50ft and has an upstream slow flow.

Earlier in the year I like fishing in the holes. Late summer I like fishing flats between deeper spots especially with a little extra current. Last night's spot was a flat only a few ft deer next to a weed line with a lot of bait in it. Between a very deep hole and a nice deep bank with lots of boulders.

Nice job guys!

We can't all catch those monsters like you but any flathead from the delaware is an accomplishment. By the way your big one if it was 45" I would say it was probably a 37-38 lb fish, 2nd biggest I've heard of from the delaware. Definitely an accomplishment.

I think it's about time I invest in a good scale. I was way to exited to catch the fish and just as I was releasing it we thought of measuring it. We grabbed the tape and put it on the fishes back and she kicked off way to hard. I'm almost positive it was around 45 cause the other fish was 38. And the first one seemed WAYY bigger than the second. You could even see the size difference in the picture.

Out of the delaware I heard of one pushing over 40 lbs. Picture sure looked like a 40lb fish. Looked very simular to the 41 and 42 I've gotten out the skuke
