Just a thought.. Wouldn't it be great if we started our own Fishing/social club with our NJFISHING members. Feel free to express opinions or thoughts on my fantasy? Be well, Richie

Like drink beer and fish somewhere once in a while together? Or like a BBQ?

Either way- good idea

I think that would be really be a great thing, maybe have some tournaments on different lakes, like for a weekend, fishing, camping, barbecuing, friends together doing what they love. Even a couple day tournaments. I love it.

Yes that and I just love the idea of a social club . Imagine if we had a little place of our own where we can go to shoot the shit, throw some seasonal parties, have a swap meet, help the community out with a benefit or two, etc... We could be the Elks of the fishing world..Yes Im a cornball. Probably a dream but you never know.Maybe the way to go is to start a non profit to get the financial breaks. I'll do some research.

Check out Meetup. com. It's a good place to set up a fishing club. There are only a few in the area. It can be limited to NJfishing members if that is what is wanted.

Here is one in the area that has a lot of members but doesn't seem very active. https://www.meetup.com/Central-NJ-Fishing-Group/

Brian- meet up seems ok- good place to plan- but still need a location. does any one live on a lake with a pavilion? I know Silas conduit park by me has one-walked/fished today..(if we go that route).we may want someone to run point/take charge...

OK, here we go. If you hold a tournament YOU are LIABLE. IF someone gets hurt or drowns, YOU are LIABLE. Trust me on this one as I sat on the Round Valley Trout Association Executive Board. The blood sucking lawyers would love to sue you and NJ Fishing dot com.
You mean a bass tournament like the ones in the spring where guys rip the spawning bass off the beds or like the ones in the summer where the guys release the bass at the dock on a hot summer day and they all float away ?
Tournaments and contests add undue stress to the fish for no reason at all. Added handling never helped a fish.
We had contests on here and it seemed guys were bickering in the end over a 1/2" on the tape measure. Ask Chrisper, I think there are at least a hundred on line tournaments going on at any given time.
Save yourself on this one.
What NJF.com does is hold M&G's. Simply put we all meet at a location, get to know one another and enjoy a day fishing. Meet and Greets offer help to those who need help either getting into a boat or just help catching fish. Very relaxed and easy going.
REMEMBER if YOU hold a CONTEST or TOURNAMENT YOU ARE LIABLE should something go wrong.

Alright Predator buddy! I'm a contractor! I'll build us a shack in the woods somewhere or maybe a tree house! Start off with a M-N-G and see how it goes from there!

Yes, contests are fun on this site as long as there not too long and drawn out! It's no easy task listening to bickering and getting opinions from all walks of life. I love a good contest here and there! More interested in this club I must say!
See what ideas you come up with and feel free to share them here! You can call or text me anytime dude!!!:D

I'm sure all that is true, that's just a problem with the human race in general. humans suck, sorry. There actually is only one website that holds contests monthly, and i've looked. and the participation is terrible. A few buddies getting together, throwing in a few bucks to the longest fish takes it for the day sounds like a great time. don't even have to weigh it, snap a pick on a bumper board, longest fish wins. as far as the liability...it is what it is, humans suck like i said.

I'm definitely in for a Meet & Greet. Since I am new to the whole Freshwater fishing scene, it would be great to meet some of you around my area (Morris County) and plan some trips together..:)

Always great meeting someone with a boat willing to take out a few others for a great day of fishing:D

“The Kids”, as I refer to the part timers / summer help, mostly in or just out of college, here @ The Fish Lab have a “Barbie Rod Challenge” going. Don’t know the specifics, only that a 23” striper & 15” flike have been landed. Casual & fun.

M&G is just fine, when I mentioned tournaments, I was thinking of more of like Chris mentioned, so let's not get over our head's here. Next, to my knowledge (I def. could be wrong) but I dont think ANY club has a tourny. during the Spawn. Listen, I'm all for fishing for the weekend (or for a day) with a bunch of people, camping, cooking, and drinking, and getting to meet new people, and learn more about the sport I love, and maybe a $10.00 per guy pool for the largest fish.

All members of the Official NJFishing.com Fishing Club will be required to wear the official hat so members can recognize each other out on the water or in the supermarket.

Now we need a gang sign we can throw up to rival fishing clubs.

I really like the idea, the club could have regularly scheduled 'meetings' (i.e. fishing/drinking meetings) and rotate the location among different lakes/rivers to account for how spread out the 'membership' is likely to be distributed across the state. I know njfishing has occasional informal meet and greets but they are few and far between. With a regular meeting schedule it would be easier for everyone to plan around and if you couldnt make it one month no big deal there will be another the next month. The meetings could incorporate informal 'tournaments' where those interested chip into a pot at beginning of the 'meeting' and the biggest fish caught takes that months pot.

I am a lawyer myself and can't imagine any sort of liability issues so long as things are kept informal. I also will offer my professional services pro bono to defend the njfishing social club against any frivolous lawsuits;-)

More clubs ? There are at least 12 Trout Unlimited clubs in NJ, then you have the Round Valley Trout Assoc., Knee Deep Club, Muskies Inc. just to name a few. Then all the B.A.S.S. clubs in NJ. Then all the outdoors clubs, kayak clubs, boating clubs, etc. BUT an NJF is still a good idea.

I have no idea how I'd fit MORE of you whack job fishing fanatics into my life! About the club and possible meet ups... Can we do them at midnight? That works best for me hahaha... Jk.

The reality is, I've met some pretty good people in the last 5 yrs through this site--some of which I speak with numerous times a week. I'm all for a club of sorts. Nothing overly official. Save that for the ice fishing contest when the smack talking and alcohol induced measurement tirades spew from our pie holes! Lol.

Start by coming out to the meet and greets! Pike, Hybrid, Trout, Salmon, Ice meet and greets, etc., they are all a good time and an opportunity to meet the faces behind the screenname. Every NJF meet and greet I've attended has been filled with laughs, home-cooked food, a couple drinks, lots of advice/info sharing, and even managing some fish (except Monks Ice meet and greet :o).

I've got to say, last fall's Hybrid meet and greet was probably the best. Lots of familiar faces as well as some new ones. Lots of guys scouting the big lake until we found the fish. A couple phone calls later, everyone was congregated around the same area and everyone caught fish.

If we do ever get this started we won't use or be affiliated with this website . No worries . I understand . That's not my intention . Just thought we have a great group of guys all into the same thing so why not do something more then a yearly meet greet . Also pretty sure last years meet n greet got cancelled due to winds. It's been awhile since the last . I could be wrong .

Bring them with! I know I'm lucky no kids yet and an understanding fiancee that let's me go. But then again I wouldn't be with her if she didn't understand what makes me tick. Got to fish 8 states on 4 trips and have 2 hunting trips planned plus all the local days on the water and in the woods. She even suggested for me to book a day or two of fishing during our honeymoon next year

No way man! Set the expectations really low early on and stand your ground! I took my wife on a sketchy boat on my honeymoon in costarica and she started getting sick with 15minutes. Said theres no way I paid all this $ to not catch a fish, then caught a rooster and made her take pics.

Well if you guys are headin North last week then maybe second or third week of October for the Hybrid M&G. Last years was def one of the Best ever!! Everybody anchored up in a circle and BAILIN Hybrids!!!!! I will post it up once we get a little closer to the fall!

Def good advise Skunk, When we have these it is to your benefit to come and meet the crew! You will usually learn and have a great time and say, Gee I wonder why I never went to these things! Meeting fellow members helps you learn a ton and when you put a face with a name it's all the better!

Any member can post up a meet if they like DON'T just sit there and say there aren't any. Seems like there is only a few of us MAINLY EDDIE who try to put these things together and its not fair to him! I have met some of the greatest people on this site and learned an ENORMOUS amount of knowledge for all species so if you wanna have one throw it up and see what sticks!

Depending on What Where and When will determine the out come so try to make it something that there is a lot of interest in and your results should be better!

Now that's pretty funny right there Mark! Probably the best/funniest shenanigans I've ever witnessed with a pink Barbie pole complete with the crappy little closed face reel was 4 years ago on the Salmon R. A young guy won a bet with his friends that he couldn't hook and land a Chinook on the rig. He actually landed 3 up to 28 lbs! Helluva show but nobody thought to whip out a phone to tape it. Everybody was laughing too hard!

Not for nothing, but...Why don't you just join one of the fishing clubs already started. Join as a group. That way you don't have to deal with all the headaches of starting a club. Insurance, meeting location fees, etc...It's a pain in the ass.
