headed out friday afternoon on a bryd hunt. no rockets wanted to play, but had a decent mixed bag bite on rapalas and jigging flies until the storm rolled through. had a channel cat, sunfish/crappie double headers, largemouth and smallmouth bass (the largie was a nice 17-18" range fish but must of clipped it's gill hitting the fly cause it was puffing blood so i never took it out of the water and it swam off, no pic) some of the crappie were very large and fat!

After the storm rolled through with rain and heavy winds (lasted about 30 minutes) I only caught 1 smallie after that, seemed to shut down the bite. And the entire area was blanketed with arches on my fish finder right above the thermocline/stratification layer i was marking...Like the entire area...the whole cove blanket of fish arch marks...nothing would bite though. very strange.

Since i failed my bryd mission, I decided to head back the next morning early. Started where i left off hoping the right fish would find all the bait that was there. Didn't start off promising and Bigfishy and Wilson were heckling my hat and i wasn't even wearing it yet!

Didn't notice Dale out there, but he noticed me floating in my tin can jigging flies. Thankfully he did because he ended up finding some biting fish and gave me the heads up. Thanks again buddy! :D

Put on my hat and sped over at 3.5mph...30 minutes later (haha) caught the tail end of the bite but nailed a pair of nice ones on rapalas before they disappeared.

wow strange readings on your fishfinder. perhaps the berametric pressure dropped rapidly causing the fish to stack up. really nice crappie. glad to hear you got the tail end of that bite and got those two bryds, once again rapalas save the day:cool: do you ever use fly rods for crappies and bass? i have only been getting small bass and a couple of decent crappies.epoxy minnows and poppers and sometimes nymphs is what i have been using.cool report chris.

I had the same experience when I was out on Saturday - I trolled through some huge marks that appeared to be hybrids, but they wouldn't eat for the most part later in the morning. Frustrating and couldn't figure out why.

Maybe something with this thunderstorm system- pressure change has them spooked?

yeah i had no bait, just lures out. They're usually aggressive enough that i can troll faster and cover water. the jigging fly is usually the main course with the plugs as back up but that day they only wanted the rapala i guess and the bait obviously haha.
