Went out on whim last night for a quick river spell. Popped out of my coffin and jumped in the car...and off I went!

I rarely connect after deluge storms in a few of the areas I fish so my expectations were low. I just needed a few hours solo. Tied on a fresh leader and put my trusted plug on and ripped cast after cast for over an hour. Water was turbid and fast, but lots of bait everywhere.

I bomb a cast across a very wide pool, right on the edge of where the pool pours into fast moving Rapids. A few cranks and whammo! My plug got demolished in inches of water and the fish exploded upstream. Felt like a good one.

With higher, faster water I took my time getting her in. I slid her across a weed mat to my feet and all that was visible of my plug was the sampo clip and the clear plastic lip. This one wasnt coming unbuttoned lol.

Lift her under the belly and by the tail and carried her to my bag a few steps back. Grabbed the pliers, popped the plug out and taper her out...27" and faaaaat. A beautiful river walleye! Walked back to the water for a quick release and with one huge tail swipe she soaked me and disappeared into the murky water. Awesome.... left soon after without another hit. Fine by me!

Tank! You skimped yourself a half inch on the measure also. If you don't mind saying, what is your go-to plug for eyeballs at night in the river?

Nice walleye.

Tasty too,....the best eating freshwater fish.

Don't any of you guys ever, occasionally, keep one?

yeah but don't want to keep the big ones like that! keep some 18-21 inchers now and then. the smaller ones taste better anyway.

It varies. Conditions, location, presence of various baitfish, speed of the water I'm fishing etc all help dictate what I pull from my box. Anywhere from 3" to 6" plugs and soft plastics. For hard baits I gravitate to orange bellies but again, everything is variable. Some nights I throw 6 different things. Some nights I get it right from jump street.

With all the bait all over the river right now I'm surprised I caught anything!

I like them whole, stuffed w/veggies on the grill.

Wading one fall on the Big D @ dusk caught & kept a 21”er. Next cast, caught one around 30”,….had to be 10 lbs.,….my biggest ever. Released that one.

Beautiful River Eye! Ok, I must now get in my coffin so I can pop out at 11pm to get out on the lake for a full vampire moon!

Awesome Walleye!!!! Beautiful female! The bait in the river is off the charts! Way to go Jigman! Hope that fish filled that river with 1,000,000 eggs or so! With another heat wave coming and no rain in the forecast, more fish will move UP! Stay on that bite brother!!!:D
