Headed out on Pompton Lake with the GF at precisely the wrong time for a hot, sunny day. Hit the water at 10:30 a.m. and fished until three.

I started out with my go to Senko and set the GF up with a spinnerbait because I figured it would be easy for her to handle, being a novice. Nothing was going on with those lures, so we started going through the tackle box to find something the fish would want.

Lots of weeds and floating algae to deal with. Nearly every cast our lures came back covered with weeds or algae and the fish weren't cooperating. I did manage to boat one nice bass in the 3-4 lb range on a jig.

I've had no luck with jigs over the years. Then I was messing around with one a few weeks ago just to test my new baitcasting reel and caught a bunch of bass pretty quickly. Now, with this catch, the jigs are moving toward the top of my bass fishing arsenal.
