Finally made my way out to two bridges to do some Catfishing. Stayed out for about three hours and ended up landing a cat, a sunny (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), two perch and three rock bass. Not a bad day. Having trouble posting pics so I'll get em up later.

congrats on the catfish.that sunny you caught is cool looking.when i was a kid fishing in dixons pond i caught a sunny that had the same body markings but no orange tipped fins. an old fishing mentor from back in the day told me it was a swamp sunny a rare type of sunny that is not seen often.

Yeah I've never seen one with the fins like that but it looked pretty sick. Hooked up on my second cast, he hit my cankbait hard about three feet from the shore.

Hooked him on a chicken liver that I accidentally left in my tackle bag for two days so it was a bit smellier than usual. 12in leader with an egg sinker a couple feet left of the bridge pillar.

You're fishing the wrong body of water for catfish. Yea you'll get them but there are sooooooo many other places that are better. Do a bit of research and check the nj fish & game site . That'll lead you in the right direction.

Yeah a bunch of people have pointed me towards round valley/monksville/hopatcong but they're all about an hour and change from me making them more of a weekend day trip than an afternoon excursion.
Looking at the stocking for channels Barbours pond/Dahnerts/Lower Passaic River are all I can seem to find within a 30 minute radius of Paterson that I can fish regularly. I've been skunked at Dahnerts and twice at Barbours so for now this is the best I got. :(

CORRECTAMUNDO!! These guys actually make great live bait.
I agree with Jigman as well, that's a great stretch, but many better spots to target cat. At least you got what you went there for, plus more. Nice bag!

Nice!
I see guys at pompton lake all the time. Dunno how the catfish are but there's pike and bass. Shouldn't be an awful drive. Also the ramapo man lake be worth a trip

Pompton should turn up some cats. Check out Terhune Park, not a long ride from Paterson right up Hamburg Tpk. There is also a stretch just below the Pompton dam where you can fish from shore. I'm sure some big fish have washed over that dam over the years.

Try fishing just below the falls at the Dundee Dam on the Passaic. And by just below, I mean practically in the foam. I've caught a few of my best Channel cats there using crayfish caught right there around that island. Everything washes over that dam to feed them. You might hook a monster (or a shopping cart, or a spare tire, or Jimmy Hoffa).

agree, looks like a Greenie. They are aggressive and fun to catch, seen a lot of them in the small rivers by me. Did not know they were invasive in NJ until I read the list in the digest.
