Was driving by, so stopped off at GWL at the back end by the dam. It's all overgrown back there, have to take a weedwacker to that path next time. Got one largemouth and moved some perch. It got quiet for awhile, so I continued on. Bonus: I saw a giant pileated woodpecker on the trail back to the truck. Stopped at monksville on my way home. Caught two more largemouth and I saw a walleye move out of the weeds into the deeper water. Walleye looked about 20", it was still daylight. First one I've seen swimming. Of course I stayed and casted for awhile thinking I've found walleye. And, of course, I left without any walleye :p ....it was exciting just to finally see one though! Proof that they stocked it once :D

Good report and also landing a LMB and some perch on top of that, Hope you can pry out a walleye on you're next venture. Good luck to ya!

Shoreline access isn't the best on both of those bodies of water, but if there is ever a time to give it a shot, now's the time.

I'm sure they do...I've attempted it twice, but lost my nerve when I started hearing all the critters stirring in the woods. Seems like the darker it gets, the bigger they sound! I'd figure anyone brave enough to stay the night should be rewarded by the fish gods :)

Monks has some excellent shoreline access if you're willing to walk a bit.

Interesting post. My son and I fished Monks from shore years ago, up top beyond the bridge, caught one LM. Good info.

Have always liked the place and not the denigration of it, really.
