Stopped in the Piscataway store on a search for camping stuff. Saw the fishing sign. Mostly ice fishing stuff. Picked up a bunch of jigs, weights, spoons etc! All 40% off!

They used to have a larger section of fishing stuff. I remember buying a bunch of Rapala lures there. Sadly those days are long and gone. Sports authority got rid of everything a few years ago to make more room for storing bikes

.
No big loss in terms of access to fishing equipment.
The ones by me stopped selling fishing and hunting gear a long time ago.
The closest thing to fishing gear they sold were cheap eggshell thin plastic kayaks.

And the Fishing Department always looked like it was set up by staff wearing blindfolds. They used to send me $10 gift cards every spring I'd use to buy free Roostertails for trout season. That was my extent of using them for fishing stuff.
For my kid's sporting goods it kind of sucks we lose the store they just opened in Flemington which was an easy trip.

Same here I used to get those gift cards for $10 also. It's a bummer we won't be seeing those anymore. Oh well there's plenty of other stores to go to! ;)

SA has been pretty worthless over the past few years as far as fishing gear. My daughter worked for them about 8 years ago and at the time she told me that they were moving away from outdoors gear and keying on clothing, to compete with Modells. Apparently she was right. I guess they can't sell enough $90 sports teams jerseys and over priced Under Armor to make a go of it. SA deserves to die. I only hope a Dicks takes over my local SA location when it goes under.

Any one know of any northern nj stores with a fishing department?
And yea who'd think selling 3 big ticket items a day isn't a good business model?

Instead of mentioning the big box stores, we should really support our local site sponsors who pay to advertise on this site

I went to the Wayne location a couple weeks ago. Spent about $50 on lures which ended up being quite a bit at 30% off. One of the lures I only got cause it was on sale (to pricey otherwise), ended up catching my two biggest smallies of the year so far!
I also gotta pair of neoprene waders for $40. Felt like a good deal since I always see them for $100 plus at other stores. Never had a pair and I'll only use them in the cooler months cause once the water warms up enough I wet wade..........

that's a nice idea, but there are no "local site sponsor" B&T shops in the NW part of the state. the closest sponsor there is, in fairfield, is closed sundays and only open past 5pm two nights a week. and people wonder why the big box stores end up with the sporting goods business...

Which part of North Jersey are you in?
Davis Sporting Goods right over the border near Mahwah, Ramsey's Outdoors in Ramsey, and Tackle & Field (Old Frank's Tackle) in Ringwood, Fins and Furs in Newfoundland on 23 South

You are lucky, Bergen County stores stinks, no fishing Dept besides some overpriced lures and most items are 10% off. If you like Columbia Fishing wear, they are 20% off. No sale on Gopro stuff

shoulda specified sports authorities. I wanted to pick up some cheaper tackle to throw into trees during trout season.
I live just south of field and tackle (love that place) in wanaque.
Thank you for the answers thou, I forgot about fins and furs.

Ramsey outdoors has a location in Roxbury on 10. Not cheap, but they have great gear. Dunno about live bait anymore
