On Monday I decided to head to one of my favorite spots way up river. When I arrived at the spot, I walked up to the river, and as I prepared to cast I looked down and saw a pretty big pike sitting in the shade. I casted toward him and watched as he followed my spinner and inhaled it. It was pretty awesome to see, plus he put up a nice fight! He taped out around 30 inches beating my previous PB of 27.

Tuesday I decided to head back out to another spot, but the water was more like chocolate milk cause of all the rain we had. After fishing for a while things didn't seem too promising. I took some inspiration from Andy's posts and decided to clean up the spot I was at as well as another that I usually fish. It wasn't much, but I picked up everything that I could. In the end I wound up filling 2 bags of trash.

Armed with my good fishing karma from yesterday's clean up I headed out to the spot where I caught my pike on Monday. On my first cast, a pike jumped completely out of the water, missing my lure. The fish looked big, but I thought it was about the size of the fish I caught on Monday. I casted out a second time, and watched her swipe and miss my lure. On the third cast I got hit hard and the fish took off peeling drag. The fight was awesome. The fish taped out at 35 inches and this fish was heavy to lift! Im terrible at weight estimates but if anyone has any idea on how much a pike this size would weigh please let me know I'm curious! After giving her a bit of a rest in the net, she kicked off hard.

I think I need some practice on the solo photo taking, so it looks like I'll have to catch more fish :)

Nice duo of teeth you got there, congrats on the Pb!!! That 1st pike has the making/markings of a beast! Karma seems to have a big place on the water, nice job on taking initiative & cleaning up a bit!!

Nice fish man! Way to grab them from shore! I guess they are starting to get aggressive with the warmer temps we have finally gotten.

Nice fish man. The 2nd one looks pretty damn healthy. You throwing big spinners or spinnerbaits?

Also, you're nuts wearing shorts in brush like that this time of year! Ticks are insane this season more so then I've ever seen! Be careful out there.

Congratulations on the PB pike! Great job buddy! Keep it up! At 35", the fish should be around 12lbs (according to length/weight charts).

I have to second what Jigman already said. Be very careful in those areas with shorts. The ticks have been really bad so far this year.

A newbie that knows what he's doing, posts pics of a fish NOT completely covered in leaves and dirt, didn't spot burn, and does a little environmental clean-up...not bad!!! Welcome, and nice Pike! A 35" is a good fish, I usually only get a handful that size or bigger every year.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the great responses :)

I'm using quarter ounce white spinner baits with a trailer hook. Sometimes I'll use in line spinners too but I usually just get little guys on them.

Thanks for the warnings about the ticks guys. They have been pretty bad. I try to be careful about keeping an eye out for them and wearing jeans/boots but with the warm weather I couldn't resist the shorts haha.

Thanks for the size JD! He felt heavy when I lifted him.
