Raritan river Monstah Rainbow Trout !!!! 5/16/16:

1st day of my vacation and thought I would do a little fishing on the Raritan river. Fished Duke Island Park and caught one trout there. I then drove down to Robert Street and fished the area where the dam had been removed. I hooked a fish standing exactly where the old dam had been. This fish hit my lure so hard it nearly pulled the rod out of my hand, and in a wink of an eye my line snapped ! I could have snagged a large carp, but I did feel a head shake before I could loosen the drag on my reel, my guess it was a big trout. I caught another small trout before I moved down stream a bit. Along the bank is a deep run, this is where I got this huge Rainbow Trout. The fish had me running up and down the river until I was finally able to get it to net. A few photos and back she went. So for all those fishermen who say they need to fish the base of a dam in order to catch fish, guess what, no dams in sight and the fishing is great ! Love catching big trout in big water !!!
I looked and looked as I fished, couldn't find any tires in the river ! BUT Central Jersey Stream Team was cleaning up around the old Prices Junkyard with the Bonnie Brea kids.

Breeeeeeeeeeederrrrrrrr Rainbow! WOW!!! Great catch Cap'n! I was down around Robert St yesterday in the damn wind! Didn't find what I was looking for unfortunately. BUT, I saw more bait at the spots I checked than I've ever seen before! BAIT EVERYWHERE!!!:D

True dat !!! Shallows are packed with baitfish at all locations and a Black Caddis hatch going on as well !

Great fish Andy and sounds like you have had her brother on as well. Colors and condition of that fish are awesome! There's no one more deserving than you as the Raritan's greatest ambassador. Good to see the river return the favor!

Great way to start your vacation.
Perhaps the fish that broke your line was a pickerel. They sometimes appear where they're least expected and cut you off like they had a pair of scissors.
