Good stuff! The numbers tell me that the Pike in SR are slowly disappearing and there also on the small side! Bummer!

Walleye are thriving in BIG S! That's awesome news! That place has a phenom spring jig bite similar to the BIG D this time of year! Gotta get back up there one of these days! Thanx for posting Squatch!

Thanx for posting Squatch! I wouldn't say that, the trap nets are effected greatly by weather just look at swartzwood, catching 500+ walleye last year and struggled to catch this year. Sometimes traps set 2-3 days sooner or later would yield much different results. I know while bowfishing we see a lot of pike some nights none other nights we lose count and have seen several over 40" one in particular that lived in the mouth of one of the creeks was easily 45" and over 20lbs, we saw her several times two summers ago. So I wouldn't bet against Sr holding a good population and some big fish

True, very true! I've seen some very long fish caught out of SR! The up and down water levels in recent years have obviously had an effect on the trap nets as well! Water level is a serious issue in NJ these days! Drives me crazy! I must add that the Pike I've caught and have seen caught out if SR always seem ratty and thin! Strange coming out of a place that has a healthy Herring population!

they set the traps up on the way towards creeks or other habitat that the fish naturally want to go spawn in

And lots of panfish as well but I've seen all shapes and sizes.and I would say the average pike we see is average girth. Sure some other water bodies produce healthier fish and the lack of weeds in SR has to contribute to that for ambush predators like pike.
