Was down in Negril, Jamaica last week for a much needed vacation with the lady. Not looking to do a deep sea boat ride, we opted for a trip into the North Negril River which was a scenic 10 minute boat ride from our resort. Threw mostly topwaters and swimshads and picked up a few Snook and Barracuda. Nothing too crazy, but she lost a nice Snook boatside to a broken leader. As usual, I was outfished...not like it really mattered :D.

Got back into the country and back into the swing of things really quick. Took a ride up to Sussex County for a night/day combo of Big Swarts and Aeroflex. Good surface action at sunset but only managed 1 Walleye before calling it around midnight. Woke to to rain Sunday so we mixed it up and tried for Landlocked's. Marked a good amount of suspended fish I'm guessing were Salmon, but no luck with them. Managed a few Rainbows before the rain picked up and we were off the water.

Happy to be back in Dirty Jerz just as my favorite fishing month of the year is beginning!

Nice job! Love Negril! The wife and I can't wait to get back there! Last time we took a 1/2 day off-shore excursion in what can only be described as a glorified canoe trolling for king macks. 20 feet long with a 60 HP mariner. Landed 5 on handlines up to 10lbs!

A long, expensive boat ride is what I was trying to avoid! I've read the off-shore trips can be very spotty down there, which is why I made it clear to our guide that I wanted to fish the river only. Though his gear wasn't best suited for casting plugs, he was super knowledgeable, knew his spots, and was extremely cordial and helpful. My only regret is not starting the trip at 6am (we started at 7am). By the time we got into the river mouth, we caught the tail end of the topwater bite before it was just too damn hot lol.

@Birdman, we stayed at Riu Negril! Phenomenal place!

hey man quick question ill be heading to negril end of june for 10days. Ive done deep sea with stanley out there but didnt have much luck as we were only trolling the over fished reefs. Was thinking of checking out the river as well, who did you use to take you up? Ive only read a few things about "famous vincent" not sure who else to talk to about a trip.

The name of the boat was "The Seashell", a simple but spacious wooden boat painted yellow/green/red with a blue pop-up top. The guide's name was Matt I believe. He does mostly the deeper stuff, but really any guide if they want the money should be able to take you to the river. From what he told me, the North Negril River is the spot, very underfished considering. Check it out on google maps, the inlet is just north of Bloody Bay. The Negril River, is overfished and "dead sea" pretty much from what I've heard.

PS: If you can, bring your own gear! And especially bring your own lures, leader and terminal tackle, that kind of stuff is at a PREMIUM on the island. I left our guide with some jigheads and swimshads along with a nice tip!
