1st, I have to say how beautiful a place the Delaware river is this time of year.
the shad bite was very lite yesterday morning.i fought 5 and landed three.they were not smashing the dart like they were sunday.the three shad I landed were all roe's and were released unharmed.they are just an amazing fish with long runs and many jumps during each battle.all fish came on 1/4oz chartreus
and green w/ white bucktail.i think the water dropped a few degrees that night as my truck read 34 degrees when I pulled up to the river at 6am.will be heading back up sunday.

I know its been said before but if you never caught a shad,go get some.they are with out a doubt the best fighting fish pound for pound I have ever fished for.

Totally agree. They will test the limits of reels drag

that's a bit of an exaggeration come on! they are fun though. they get sideways in the current with that broad body and the current just fights you. can't compare them to carp or hybrid stripers.

imo the shad.the shad fights out right not using the weeds or bottom.i am not saying the others don't fight.

They don't fight out right, they use the current so its nit a fair comparison. I've caught many casting from my kayak and if you float down the river fighting them it's a completely different fight. Same thing when fishing from shore, they fight good till you get them in slack water then they are like any other fish.

Only things I've ever caught out of the Delaware are smallmouth bass, channel catfish, rock bass & walleye. Want to get a shad outta there badly lol.
