i fished the KLG yesterday and managed to put ten rainbow trout in my net, one was of decent size and the rest were small but my question is, where are all the browns and brookies in the gorge?? I used to love catching all three species in one outing but now it seems that is becoming a thing of the past...... where did they all go? or has the state made a plan to stock only rainbows?

First: Welcome to NJF. Second: if you didn't fish for trout in NJ last year or if you didn't follow any of the fishing web sites, you'd never know. The browns and brook trout contracted a disease at the hatchery that contaminated them and the raceways. They were either destroyed or released in non trout production waters last year. It's all rainbows for awhile.
Stay tuned into NJ Fishing to keep up with all things fishing. Forget about trying to glean anything from the newspapers.l

okay yeah i have heard all about the disease in the hatchery i was just unaware of the fact that the disease only effects browns and brooks. I surely hope we can eliminate this disease and get the browns and brookies flowin through our rivers again!!!

Browns will be back with time. As of now it's looking 3-5 years possibly longer. Brookies unfortunately may never be stocked again at least by the state

Never fished the KLG. But a few years ago someone pulled out a 10 lb trout out of there. It was in a few magazines.

A very good friend of mine pulled a 30 inch Brown out of the SB above the gorge a few years ago in the winter! It was a beauty! There used to be plenty of Browns if you knew where to look. I'm talking 20-30 inchers! This wasn't long ago!

3-4 years ago there were ALOT of BIGGG fish in the gorge. You could see them when the sun would come out. They were never to interested in what I was throwing to them. I use to catch brookies around from 12-18 inches in many spots too.

Here's one from a couple weeks ago. There's still some beasts in there. I get a brown or 2 every couple trips up there. Also get some native rainbows and browns once in a while. Buts it defiantly not like it use to be a couple years back.
If you know where to look. Youll find some nice fish. This one was 22-23 inches caught him 2 weekends in a row. Pics dont do him justice. One of my favorite trout rivers in NJ by far!

That's a gorgeous fish dude. Look at those fins! Full and colorful!
There are huge fish in there and they've seen every fly, lure and jig. You just have to be stealthy and hope you are there when they're feeding. I refuse to sit and try to tempt big fish there. If they don't strike rather immediately I keep it moving. The SBR is a run and gun game for me. I'll fish that whole klg stretch in an hour unless I'm bailing them!
