Hey folks
I am fairly new to fishing but I have been on spruce run and round valley a bunch of times and feel like I need a gps. I have a kayak and plan on buying a mount but I was wondering if there are any cheap but reliable models out there that I can purchase. Or if in fact I need one, when on either reservoirs. Ive been looking at ibobber but I don't trust it. Any input would be great, thanks

What does your budget look like? I assume you are targeting trout? If so you definitely want something decent to be able to mark the fish so you aren't fishing a wasteland. GPS will add another $100+ to a unit.

If you have a smartphone get the navionics app and use the phones GPS. The app has awesome mapping of the reservoirs.

Don't be afraid to buy used in the classifieds or on ebay.

I used an eagle cuda for years till I just upgraded this year. Has gps but no mapping. And is just black and white. Got the job done though for like 100 bucks.

I've run a Humminbird Fishin Buddy 140C for 2 years now and like it a lot. It's especially helpful for vertical jigging. I've used it in anything from Round Valley to lake tributaries with much success. The sidefinder is useful for casting into banks, cover, etc.

Not my ride, but I have a Scotty mounted on the top/side of my yak and used the factory holder that comes with it, minus the clamp.
