Night surf fishing

Just curious, does anyone fish the jetties at night anymore for Ling, etc.
Haven't done that since the Long Branch pier burnt way back when.

At one time it was productive for Whiting and Ling but who knows now.

I would highly doubt it since whiting for all practical purposes are non existent other than a few showing the last few years and ling catches are way off. That fishery has gone the way of most others........straight down the toilet.

With Noreasters in the winter, they used to get washed up on the beach and freeze making for easy picking. If there are any there, they will wash up that way again but I dont think that anyone has seen them

i have done the january jetty thing a couple of times. I have only taken stinking dogfish and scates and a small strey striper ling dont run in in the shallows anymore. last whiting i caught was 1987 and the run was very short-lived. i misss long branch pier- caught so many fish there back in the day.

ps- tommy cod are also gone from our waters.- bet most guys neer even saw one!!

In the sixties and seventies it was great!

I caught a spotted hake on a clam at the Manasquan Inlet north jetty at night a few years ago but didn't see any ling or whiting in a very long time.

Every year I get lucky & get 1 a year on the paramount usually in late May to early June but I've yet to get 2 in the same year.
