fished a private lake Saturday, started around 6:30am.it was game on from the start with lmb, pickerel, sunnie perch and crappie.from 6:30 till 1pm the bite was non stop.both jigging and tip-up were hot.went thru 5 dozen bait.it was just great to be back on the ice again and cutting holes.all fish released unharmed to catch anther day.so after a great day like that I get invited to do it again sunday.we get back up to the lake early and start drilling hole hoping for a repeat.well it was not the nock down drag out fishing we had Saturday but we did ok.sunday was slower and the bite came in waves.you would have nothing for 30 minutes and then catch 5 or 6 fish in 15 minutes and then have to wait again.but talk about a great day weather wise to be on the ice in January fishing in a sweat shirt.was very happy to have fished both days as the weather peeps are saying hot with rain this week.hope the ice makes it so we can do it again.

Cant beat jiggin the ice in a hoodie, I was sweating a little by lunchtime cutting holes and moving tipups......we'll see how it holds w the warm all week, doesnt look good w 60 and rain on wednesday, plus overnights dont look good either..we may be starting from scratch again

Nice report Ed! Seems I had a very similar bite yesterday, would be hot hot hot, then slow for 30 minutes, then multiple flags again.

skunk I guess that's why we keep going back to try and figure them out.i also found that the color purple was the color for jigging both sat & sun.tried allot of different types and as long as they were purple it seemed to be what they wanted.the w-3 jigging rap with a purple back was the go to.

not sure if i saw you or not saturday, but it was a nice day, i fished the contest with my father-in-law and njsquatch. Squatch had a massive 2lbs4oz bullhead that was in second place for a while, but i figured it wouldn't hold out. we had plenty of fish caught and pretty good jigging action with some nice crappie and perch. here's one of my perch and my father-in-law with a nice crappie both jigged up. Strangely we only had on largemouth bass with mostly pickerel all day. afternoon was super slow. Sunday, fished elsewhere with getanet, jigman, and jdtuna...it was a great time!

And that's what it's all about in my book! Just being out enjoying nature and what it has to offer! Most younger guys don't realize what they have in front of them until it's too late! Constantly moving around and in a rush to go here and there! Relax and enjoy the moment! It doesn't last forever! You catch a fish that's awesome. You don't, well then that's what keeps you motivated to get after em again!
The most thrilling moment for me on the ice this year was watching a Bald Eagle chasing a Sea Gull for 25 minutes. The Sea Gull sure did do everything it could to get away. 27 minutes later the Sea Gull was ripped to absolutely nothing! This stuff doesn't happen in front of your face every day that's for sure. What a creature! Gotta love our Bald Eagles! The image of this Eagle stalking and destroying it's prey is stuck in my head. Wow!!!
TIGHT LINEZ ED!!!!!

It was great to finally get out on Saturday for the first time this year!
Lake was certainly a mad house. Action was non-stop in the morning. took me over an hour and half to get my 4 tip-ups setup. The fish were veracious.
Ended the day with about a dozen fish, mostly pickerel and the biggest damn bullhead any of us had seen. Forget to take a picture as I was in a rush to get it back in the water to fight another day.
Thanks again for the invite Chris!
