Have a bad case of what I thought was tendinitis (tennis elbow) for the last few months. the pain got so bad I finally made it to the orthopedist for an MRI and the news was not good:mad: torn tendons and torn bicep. Six weeks of physical therapy and possible surgery. On the disabled list til spring. Boy does this suck, not to mention painful as a motha'f'er!
No more black fish or cod for me this winter, hope to be ready by spring.

Had "tennis elbow" years ago for a few months. Weeks of physical therapy, electronic stem, and fancy arm bands I had to wear.
Nothing helped.
Gave up all the doctor BS and eventually it just went away on its own.
And oh yea, painful.
Wishing you a speedy recovery

Sorry to hear, mine was triggered by shooting too much pool, of all things. Painful, but did go away on its own, probably nothing as serious as yours. Good luck!

Dave, I've had chronic tennis elbow but now the ligaments are torn as well as the bicep in the crook of my arm, holy cow it's painful. I'm not putting much stock in the PT although I have to do it to have the surgery covered. I don't know what PT is gonna do for two tears
So much for getting my shoulders done this winter. Boy does it suck getting old but it's better then the alternative :D
Thanks Alex and Mario. Hoping to be ready for stripers, although if I need surgery it's gonna be closer to fluke season:mad:

Tennis elbow is also called fisherman's elbow.
I got it once throwing a cast net too much.
Shot of cortisone cleared it up.

I thought that your eyes went bad from too much of that activity. I guess that you can wear out your elbow too. LOL:)

Don't know how I ripped the elbow Gerry but I know how I damaged the bicep. Day after Christmas I readended someone. My first at fault accident in 20 plus years. The bumper of the truck folded into the tire. In order to drive away I had to pull the bumper off the tire. Grabbed the tire iron from the jack kit and while prying the bumper off the tire tore the bicep. Now between the torn ligament in the elbow and bicep my right arm is useless:mad: don't know how I did the elbow, I guess that could have been a mastubatory injury:eek:

Shrimpy,
I had a torn distal bicep tendon repaired this past spring. Once healed up, its back to 100% strength and 100% pain-free. I was at the point I couldn't open a doorknob with my right hand.
Good luck!

Hang in there and remember the body is an "incredible healing machine". Follow the Dr's orders and I have no doubt you will be in action soon. I had an uncle who had a similar mishap and he was back fishing in just a few months.

Walleye, I'm at the same point. Can't twist my forearm without intense pain in elbow and bicep. Did you need surgery. Sounds like you did as you mentioned it was repaired. Did you try physical therapy first or am I wasting time with the PT

Last time I checked, you need TWO arms to catch a fish.
You should be fine to keep fishing.
Only one arm needed to drop down and reel up nothing, rest the rod on the rail to reel up ......:D

I had a grade 1 tear of my MCL left knee almost 3 years ago. Ignored physical therapy and went back to work with a bad ass knee brace. Probably one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. It healed, but now at the age of 35 I have pain in my knee anytime I go for a long walk and the other day I tried stepping onto a ladder while holding a 90 pound fixture above my head. OOOF. My advice, do what the doctor tells you!!! Feel better.

Speedy recovery,
Hope you're feeling better Steve. Stick to the therapy after the surgery. I tore both bicep tendons and had rotator cuff, labrum tear repaired in my shoulder and the therapy after was key.
Good luck, feel better and get back out there.

Thanks guys!!!!
I certainly appreciate all the well wishes!!!!
Gonna bring the mri results to an orthopedic surgeon for a second opinion. Don't want to waste six weeks of PT if it's not gonna help. The physical therapist even said that no amount of PT is gonna reattach the tendon to the bone:(

Happy to have helped. I wasted a year of pain with the same injury before getting it fixed, no reason for you too.
As I said, I had mine repaired in Feb 2015 and the Doc gave me permission to fish for spring striper at the end of May. 100% recovery.
