"2nd Annual NJF Ice Fishing Contest"

"MANIACS UNITE" The contest will go down one way or another! I know Mother Nature isn't cooperating as of yet, but she will! Mark my words! We'll be on the Ice sometime in January. Sharpen those auger blades, tie up some leaders and get the Ice gear ready. Old man winter will be here before you know it. If we get 1 week of Ice or 1 month of Ice the contest lives on. Just make sure your out there swinging for the fences even if we do wind up with only 1 week of "SAFE ICE"

This contest is driven by angler participation. I need you guys and gals to keep this going for years to come. So tell a fellow "HARDWATER ADDICT" to get "IN" on the action. Tell a friend, tell your grandparents, tell everybody in your contacts on your smart phone. Let's get people involved. It's about to go down!

The categories for this years contest are as follows!
1 - Pike
2 - Pickerel
3 - Largemouth/ Smallmouth Bass
4 - Walleye
5 - Perch/ Crappie

This contest begins as soon as you can find "SAFE ICE" in NEW JERSEY! Remember you must pay your entry fee before entering your fish!

Boundary waters such as the Delaware river and Greenwood lake are fair game in this contest!

The contest will end Sunday, March 13th at MIDNIGHT! No entries will be taken after this date!

There's not many rules to his contest so here they are. Read them, know them, understand them. If you don't understand the rules PM me or simply read the rules again.

To get "IN" this AWESOME ICE CONTEST simply reply to this thread with "IN" and please include your "PAYMENT METHOD"

The entry fee to get "IN" the contest will be "20 BUCKS" per person!

You must be an NJFishing.com member to get "IN" on this action!

Fish must be caught in NJ public lakes only! "NO PRIVATE LAKES"

The "LONGEST FISH in each category WINS"

There is a deadline to pay your entry fee. That deadline will be Sunday, January 31, 2016 at midnight. You "MUST" pay your entry fee before entering your fish!

PAYMENT METHODS:
If you know me just hand me the crispy 20 dollar bill. If you need to send a check because you think it's still 1985 PM me for my mailing address! PAYPAL is the easiest way to handle these situations.

"2" photos are required with your entry.

The 1st photo must show the angler holding the fish on the ice somewhere in the state of NJ!

The 2nd pic must show the fish lying flat next to a good quality tape measure! Press the nose of the fish against a tackle box or your sled so there's no question on the measurement. Make sure the fishes mouth is closed. If you own a bumper board, "USE IT" Last year there were some horrible measurements. This year if your measurement is way off I'm calling you on it and will bring in another angler, "not in the contest", to give a 2nd opinion on the questionable measurement. Measurements will be broken down to an 1/8 of an inch to ensure there is only "1" WINNER in each category.

There will be a "MYSTERY ITEM" that must be included in at least 1 of your entry pics. Make sure you have this "MYSTERY ITEM" on you at all times. The "MYSTERY ITEM" will be available to print out January 1st, 2016. NEW YEARS DAY!

NEW RULE FOR 2016 -
NO POSTING PICS OF YOUR ENTRIES UNTIL THE SIGN UP DATE!!! You can post your entries starting JANUARY 31st at MIDNIGHT. This should make things very INTERESTING!!!

The rules are basic guyz and galz! Any questions just shoot me a PM. The 20 dollar entry fee goes toward the cash pot. As of right right now there will be 1 winner in each category. The more anglers that enter the better the chance of us having cash prizes for 2nd and 3rd place in each category.

Gift card donations will be accepted for the contest. Tell your local tackle shop about the contest and maybe they'll be nice enough to donate a gift card. Gear donations will be accepted again this year. If you want to donate gear, tip ups, safety picks, gloves, hats or whatever it will be accepted. Just let me know how much you spent on your prize donation so I can separate them according to price. Don't forget to get our "SPONSORS" involved if it's possible. They are our lifeline and provide us with the things we need when we're out there on the HARDWATER. "SUPPORT the NJFishing SPONSORS and our LOCAL BAIT SHOPS"

It sure doesn't look good at all as of right now. I will change the sign up date to the end of January. Hopefully there's some kind of sign from Old Man Winter that the Arctic blast is on the way. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen! Gotta keep fishing regardless.

2012 was a rough year with minimal ice but the fishing stayed good because of the unseasonable temps. I'll take it as it is either way. Let's see what happens fellaz!

I know, I know, winning cash for a big LM or 14 inch Perch is horrible. I need more people involved in this contest. I won't do it with at least 20 participants. So if the winter bores you and you want to try something new get IN on the action.

It's a typical year in NJ with the weather, not sure where some of you have been. These weather patterns happen often in the Great Garden State. The last 2 years we were blessed with more ice than we've ever experienced. It's been a warm fall but if you stay positive and start doing that "ICE DANCE", our ICE will come. 6-8 inches on ponds and small impoundments would be fine for me. Let's see what happens!?!?

Where are the entries from last year that want revenge? Where are the guys from last year that have a chip on there shoulder? We'll get our ICE and you will have your shot to win 1 of the categories. It's not easy staying out there all day everyday in the frigid temps. But, you have to put your time in if you want that $$$$$$$$..............

Lets get something straight! I have before and will again strap my floatations and safety devices on and fish minimal ice, but I have no desire to fish in a shallow baby swimming pool just because it's frozen when perfectly good open water lakes still offer me great fishing!

That being said, I said I'm in and I'm in! Enjoy your head starts because I'm milking the open water season for all its worth before I step on the ice! Pull as many fish out of those secret farm ponds as you can before the real lakes freeze!

Before I get back to my silly smack squawking can I make a serious suggestion...

Put the part about bumping the fish against something in red too. The difference between a fish laying on top of a ruler and that same fish and ruler bumped against something can be up to a quarter inch, trust me! Let's not put good old Edward in an awkward spot, bump that fish for an accurate measure and get that tail as close as possible to the mark lines if not touching it!

Ok get back to your skim ice private ponds!

No, but you can float tipups in the open water as long as you swim out to them and enter and exit the water from the ice.

Chris,

Simple solution .... just claim that open water is your hole that was made with a help of couple of B-52s and bunker busters. Make sure that no one an I mean no one else fishes it since they did not put up work in creating it. I do not remember any regulations on how big or small that hole with open water suppose to be.

I was on the ICE watching flags and catching fish Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Yea, yea, NO ICE they say!!! Ha! Good story! The ice did take a hit from the rain and mild temps Saturday and Sunday but it didn't totally disappear. On that note, colder temps are on the way and the ice is going to get thicker and safer. See you MANIACS soon.

Don't forget your safety gear and don't forget to use the buddy system. Heading out with a bunch of friends is always a good time. Keep your eyes peeled for possible MEET-N-GREETS later this month.

Any maniacs on the ice today? Hit a new spot yesterday to find 5" and non stop action on medium gills and perch. After about an hour my gloves were ice bricks from handling all the fish. Couldn't move the fingers anymore and only managed another 25 mins once I took off the gloves, guess it's time to break out the shanty.

Got out to the lake today after school. Fished from 230-5. Had 5 flags only 2 fish brought to ice. One chubby pickerel and one massive white perch (about 15 inches). One fish took a lot of line but I got to the flag to late and he spit it. Most likely a pike. Good thing is the ice grew about an inch over night!!

Post those pics up fellaz. The ice we have is melting quickly. I was on a lake in NNJ this morning and 4 inches of black Ice with 2 inches of frozen slush diminished down to 4.5 inches by 2 this afternoon. Lost 1.5 inches in a couple hours. I have matts fish at 36 3/8". Little finger on fin helped. Eddy I have yours at 36. Looks like its 1/4 short at the start of the tape and goes 1/4 past 36 making it 36" in my opinion.

I had the fish bumped against my sled and as soon as I tried to take the pic she flopped! I rolled with my fish slid the tape over and just got the best pic I could! Fish full of eggs had to get sent back to the depths ASAP! :eek:

guys....a little piece of wood...you bump the nose and the measuring tape. bring a friend it makes it easier to get a quick pic. have the tail touching the tape rather than half a foot on top of it.

Hahahahaha!!!! Good day out there Andre! I had 3 flags in 20 minutes right after you left! It was a little nuts landing 2 fish on tip ups at the same time! Lost the one I wanted on the big bait at around 230! Fish took a ton of line but just couldn't swallow the 12 inch bait I was using! Nice day to be out regardless! Super Sunday Funday indeed! Heyyyyyyyy gang! I'm finally over the fact that this ice season is completely over. I was in denial for a while but now it's time to move on. There's fish to catch as always. What a short sketchy season it was! Man oh man! Too bad we don't live in the ICE BELT area! That's the way the ball rolls here in NJ! Big thanx to all the members that signed up for this!
