Sunday, wading the eastern shore, caught (Yozuri Magnet Minnow) & released a 20” Lake Trout.

Had 2 other hits. Shortly after the second one, a big fish splashed @ the surface.

Do Lakers typically move in shallow this time of year Mark?

The Lakers & the other trout can move into the shallows, as all of the reservoir's water is cold & oxygenated.

Unlike the summer, when the water temperatures stratify & there is only a deep layer of cold & oxygenated water that the trout are limited to.

Yesterday, two 15” rainbows.

Had another larger trout on, & saw it get off 10’ away from me. Had a couple of follows.

They’re out there!

Using a Yozuri & a spinner, landed 5 more 15 - 16” rainbows over the weekend. Had a few others on that got off & some hits.

Observed some trout dimpling @ the surface.

Well done, not easy getting them from shore. I've tried several weekends now without luck - followers and a couple hits but not able to sink the hooks. Then I hit the SBR on the way home and always seem to find a hole with an eager Bow

Still on the hunt for my first laker. RVR is a Challenging pond for me.

I caught two decent 16" class bows along west shore with spoons last weekend. Lots of casting, fewer catching. Place can be tough

hey, any idea what's going on with the lake water level for the rest of the year? are they going to try to top it off over the winter or is what's in there now going to be it until next spring?

for those that haven't been by there in a while, the water level is down a bit. you have to back past the ramp onto the lakebed to launch.

this was sunday. all of this is usually under water.

On the NJ Water Supply Authority’s web site, from the most recent meeting minutes (Oct. 2015):

“The refurbishment of Pump Assemblies #1 & #6 are completed. The pumps have been returned to the South Branch Pumping Station. The contractor has started the installation of the base plates. Once in place, the pumps & motors can be installed & prepared for testing.”

If the tests go ok, I imagine that they would start pumping in the spring (2016) as they usually do, when the flows are historically higher.

Yesterday, same lure / same place: Caught & kept a 23” brown (very skinny).

Had another on but lost it. Saw some trout in the shallows.

“Calm as a Mill Pond.”

Whata ya think?? One of those spring club stockies??thats havin a hard time with food options over there??It just seams that the bows in those club stockings of breaders do much better than the breeder browns do....The last time i saw quality browns there it was obvious that they were long time holdovers, probably stocked at ten inches er so and had more time with less need for ALOT of food which then gave them more time to figure out the food options??maybe??

ahh wtf do i know?just a half arse theory

The brown didn’t have a jaw tag.

And yes, the rainbows are all nice & chubby as their forage is invertebrates & fish.

Because browns mostly eat other fish, they lose weight in that forage fish sparse reservoir.

Saturday, caught (Yo Zuri Magnet Minnow) & kept an RVTA tagged Trophy Rainbow Trout. Nice fish,........about 24", jumped once.

Otherwise, been catching & releasing a few short rainbows.

Nice work and consistent for sure. Rain in the forecast but you're motivating me - will see if I can escape in the very near future.

frustrating day thursday, fished entire day, tried all the usual spots, trolled the whole shoreline, no bites. free boat ride for anyone who wants to show me what i'm doing wrong, haha.

the birds were busy... the pair of bald eagles were out fishing and there were about a thousand mallards hanging out in the middle. and 10k+ snow geese that came in at dusk.

also, no f'n way RVR is freezing over this year... the water was still 46° on top even after all that cold we had at the beginning of the week!

A couple of other lakers caught last week from shore...we got skunked, but saw two rainbows caught yesterday. Water's a lot lower than recent years w/slower reports. Don't know if that makes any difference at all, but the water has definitely been warmer.

Just booked my campsite for Memorial Day weekend. 3 days of fishing at RVR!

Wading the shoreline in the winter,....I hook the most trout just off of campsite #60.

Tried once, in warm water the end of May,......LOTS of small Rock Bass nipping @ the lure.

Do Lakers typically move in shallow this time of year Mark?

Most likely they do. I remember old In-Fisherman episodes where they caught these lakers in shallow water with white tubes and spoons when they spawn. Most likely my guess is they come shallow to spawn and then move out. Remember the water at Round Valley is so clear that the sunlight can penetrate really easily so they are going to spawn most likely in 12-16 foot of water my guess.
