Hello everyone,
My name is Justin and I am new to New Jersey. I am also somewhat inexperienced in fishing but I've been dying to explore more and become a better angler ever since I moved to NJ a few months back. I've caught bass before, as well as carp, catfish, perch and crappie but never any trout...until this past weekend!
I took a drive out to Morris County (I live in Bergen county near Paramus) to hit up a small river and came up with my first 2 trout ever!!
I'm not exactly positive of the type of trout (I think brown or Brook)but I've attached some pics if you want to help me identify them.
Also, since I just moved here and don't know anyone at all, if anyone here would like to meet up some time and kinda show me the ropes or just cool places to go that would be awesome! I'm always down to meet a fishing buddy!
Thanks for reading guys,
Justin

Welcome to the site and to the state! There are plenty of great fishing opportunities here and so many people willing to help you learn here. Congrats on your first trout! Looks like it's one of the Rainbow trout that were stocked this fall, they all have a very dark coloration right now.

Thanks guys! Here's another pic of the fish, I'm not sure why it came out so dark. It's a lot lighter on my phone.
congrats and welcome to new Joyse ....I just switched over to fly fishing and have yet to catch a trout.....I mainly fished ultralight spin gear bass, crappies, etc..and I am having a blast fly fishing......if you would like to hook up, we could probably arrange that....I don't know a lot of spots, but I'm eager to explore ....I live in Wayne......send me a pm....

Nice job on your first trout! I'll never forget my first one, I caught it in a brook in my home town. The NJ trout hatchery does a great job of stocking trout everywhere so you can find them in a lot of places not far from home :D
What you caught in the photos is most likely a rainbow trout. The give away is the pink line through the center of the fish and many small black spots on the skin.
I live in Bergen county too, and fish a lot of the local spots. I can help you out if you want to find some fish in the area, feel free to send me a PM.
Good luck out there!

If you really want some crazy trout action you have the upper Delaware River and the Catskills in NY. Check the regs before heading as some streams in NY close Oct 15th. Plenty of trout water around. Great time to go scouting without all the vegetation on the banks right now. Keep us posted, we love photos, nice trout btw !!
