First Trout ever, on the south branch of the raritan. I saw lardalmightys recent video and he caught a bunch of sunfish, which i have never caught, so i took a drive down there to try and catch one but also kept in mind there's some trout.

There was a whole lot of nothing going on, i tried 3 different spots and i wasn't getting any bites. At the third spot i noticed by this tree on the side of the bank there was this big fish there just chilling.

I thought it was a small mouth bass.

I threw the mepps spinner at it, which was only like 10ft away and as soon as it saw the spinner it went after it! hooked him up and reeled him in and to my surprise it was a rainbow trout. It fought hard!

There were a few more right next to the same tree just sitting there inactive. They wanted nothing to do with anything i threw at them.
Also the one i caught, its belly was empty. I think the water is still too warm for them.

I killed it first then took the pics, i felt really bad killing it but i promised my father id bring him one.

I think its weight was more like 1.6 pounds, i think my scale is always .2 pounds off.

Anyways it was quite an adventure.

Dude, congrats on your first Rainbow. There's plenty more where that came from. Put her on the grill and enjoy. Cheers! Here's to many more in the very near future!

Congrats. Will be out there on Sunday with some buddies. Hopefully some will be left for us. Nothing beats them fresh right out of the river. I prefer the smaller stockies for eating.

Nice fish. Congrats and happy eating. They taste way good. And here's to many more in the future. Once you get the trout bug, it's hard to shake it.

Awesome catch! maybe try some powerbait for the inactive ones. the scent may lure them in to eat.
