I stayed local this weekend, trying to put a decent catch together. On Saturday evening my first stop was a local park, where I found a few small bass who wanted to play with my crankbait. Nothing decent, in fact that pond has been kind of a disappointment this year. The numbers and the size are down a lot. Hopefully that spot rebounds next year, it's one of my favorite after-work honey holes.
Sunday was just too gorgeous not to go fishing, so I headed down to Spring Lake, with the intent of getting my first bass on a chatterbait. Mission accomplished, as I landed three, including a 2-pounder. Saw lots of carp jumping and milling around in the shallows as well. Tons of turtles too, trying to warm themselves on the rocks. After I wrapped up there I decided to try one more spot, and decided on Lake Manalapan. It was a bit of a drive, but it rewarded me with the fish of the weekend, a fat 3-pounder on a lipless crankbait. That would be the only fish the lake gave up, and I called it quits around 5:00.
Tons of people out enjoying the weather, get it while it lasts because it won't be long before we all turn the heat on, and leave it on!
