Hit the river this afternoon after a nice easy day of work. Figured I was out west as it is so let me go check on things at one of the local honey holes. Didn't feel like catching bait today so large Shiners were on the menu for anything willing to feed. Brought down 3 rods, 2 set up with slip bobbers and 1 rod rigged for the bottom beasts. Didn't take long for the cookie cutter Smallies to find the large, tasty Shiners. In a short amount of time I managed to get 5 of these little river warriors to the banks. Small Smallies though, All between 10-13 inches. Nice little fight on the ultra lite Fenwick without a doubt. Smallie bite lasted about 90 minutes than the big bright devil sun appeared and the bronzebacks vanished. It was fun while it lasted.
Bottom rod starts bouncing and the next thing I know Im hooked into a Flathead. You just know what it is if you fish for them enough. Flathead 1 took a double Shiner surprise fairly close to shore. Great fight, little guy was about 6-7 lbs. Flatheads 2 and 3 also fell for the double shiner surprise as well. And all of them were headed down and out after inhaling the bait of the day. Nothing huge today but a nice steady pick all afternoon with a couple swings and misses. The 3 INVASIVE FLATHEADS were all over 5 lbs with the 2 biggest weighing 6-7 lbs. Id really like to have another shot at the BEAST that got away but hey, thats fishing. I'll be back for her
Sun starts to go down, FINALLY! Lets see if the Walleye are cooperating today. Get the Walleye rod all set up for jigging, 2nd cast, BOOM! Locked into to something with some serious shoulders. Its not Wally Walleye. At first it felt like a SLOB Smallie, nope, not a Smallie. What the hell is it then? Striper? Could be, but nope again. After a drag ripping battle I get this cute 7 lb Carp to the bank. What a battle on the ultra lite Walleye rod. Several runs and drag ripping fun was had by all, which means me. This future river beast had me on my toes for sure. Glad I got to land this creature. The Carp inhaled a Walleye jig on the drop and almost ripped the rod out of my hand in the process. GOOD TIMES!!! After the battle I decided to call it quits for the night. Another nice river session with some nice species caught. Here's a few pics fellas.
TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!!!:D
