Got out for a little bit last night with the wife for some Labor day smallies. No bruisers but good action with 1 to 2 pounders for the 2 1/2 hours we fished. No fish pics but here's one I snapped of the fish finder showing a bait ball and fish slashing up through it. The 2 sides of the screen won't exactly match since the sonar is on front transducer and the downscan on rear.

Cool shot, water temp 77.3 ? that's pretty good, I was reading 82 that day on Pines lake.
my favorite technique to fish suspended smallies on bait balls is to drop a blade bait under it then rip it up through it, slowing down when i'm below and ontop of the bait pod!

Thanks Jimmy - the HDS units and Motorguide Xi5 combo has been working out terrific, I honestly couldn't be happier with it... definitely worth the investment.

Thanks John, that's essentially how we fished it... when my wife asked why that technique and not just working baits thru it horizontally, I analogized it to jigging for snapper blues...
