Got together with my buddies for our 3rd annual Delaware Death Trip. We toned it down this year, as we started friday evening at Dingman's and ended up yesterday afternoon at Smithfield Beach. All gear, tents, sleeping bags, food, etc. packed into our kayaks for trip. Had high hopes going into the weekend until I realized it was a FULL MOON . Action was not hot and heavy, as we managed a handful of Smallmouth, biggest going 17" (yawn). Mostly targeting Walleyes, who did not cooperate. Spent a lot of time on Walpack bend fishing the deeper waters with no love shown. Overall nice 3 days spent with da boyz though, beautiful Big D scenery, Bald Eagles, some big snakes, swimming, and the usual shenanigans. Wish I had more pics, but here it is lol :p:p.

That's a nice bass.

I was just downstream from Walpack Saturday night. The fishing was definitely slower than usual. With bass, walleye, and channel cats not biting, I ended up catching bullhead catfish and eels. One of the bullheads was an impressive 16" long.

I had a big school of alewife herring come up around my kayak. I didn't know what they were at first, but then I tied on a small hook, added a tiny piece of bait and was able to catch one and see it was an alewife.

Big D float trip is the best. There is a state record eye lurking in that area. I've snorkeled the bend many times and seem them. Good job. A buddy and i did a day trip yesterday from Phillipsburg launch to Reiglesville launch. Lots of fish caught with a 3 1/2 lb smallie and 5 lb channel cat being the best. Also caught some large mouths and a pickerel for the first time. Have you seen any of these in the D ?

Yes, but not many in the 'Gap' area. I can catch a few Largemouth bass and Pickerel in the slow, weedy sections of the river. These areas of river usually have a soft mud bottom instead of rocks and gravel.

I can't speak for anything downstream of the Gap.

We float sections around Barryville, NY, mostly during past 11 years, but didn't make it this year. That's a nice smallmouth. My biggest from the river is 17 inches, though I caught an 18 1/2 inch largemouth at Poxono Island. Usually get a small walleye, 19 inches tops.

We did Barryville to Bushkill 2 summers ago during a period of elevated river heights, super beautiful. We banged a few Walleye in the Walpack stretch last November up to 22" I think. I'll be back out there before the freeze.

Way back when I was 17, I owned a boat :) Took my 10-year-old brother to Bull's Island in Dec. for walleye, and we caught lots of little ones, jig & minnow. I potted the minnows, got a big seven-inch chub along w/them. So towards the end, time for Rick to bait up...and something hit that chub and took off upriver...had to be a BIG walleye, maybe musky, but we never saw or boated it.

Sounds like my type of trip. Can anyone help me with names of transport services for the gap area or anywhere on the river for a float camp fish trip? PM me.
